Fund Raising for Transmitters

Post by Jo UK »

Kotkaklubi and this forum have started a fund-raising effort at https://www.leetchi.com/c/nonprofit-eag ... kotkaklubi
WE hope to raise sufficient funds to enable some transmitters to be attached to next years' nestlings. At the moment we are concentrating on Black storks, but Urmas has pointed out that we don't know which nests will be active next year, or which nests will have cameras.
So now is a good time to have a discussion about which species has the transmitters.
Black Storks are endangered, and many are lost during the first year. Knowing where they go and what dangers they face could help to mitigate those dangers in the future.

If no Black Storks nest and breed next year, then shall we use the funds to buy transmitters for white-tailed eagles, or another species?
Urmas would like to know your opinions, so please think seriously about it, and post here.

Thanks for your help, either in donations or opinions, or both!

My opinion! If our Black Stork nest is not active next year , Urmas can use the money for other projects. White tailed eagles are also interersting ..The Kids from Anna and Uku .. would be nice to see, what they are doing :innocent:
But I hope very much, that our Storks come back in the next year.

I do not really have an opinion.
Well, I agree that what is being chosen and the best is.

My preference is black storks but when the nest is not active next spring I'd better leave it for Urmas and his team to decide where it is most helpful.

I think, everyone would like a transmitter for the birds he/she is mainly watching.
If you like watching Black storks and ospreys, you will favour a transmitter for them. Of course, it is interesting to accompany a bird on its way to Africa and maybe next year back to the nest.

Urmas and his team will certainly know best where a transmitter is used meaningful for the birds and for research. They have my confidence to decide very well. 8-)

We are working on a solution. I think it will be fairly easy to find a different way for those contributors to donate to this good cause :loveshower:

I choose priority Black stork in 1. Estonia 2. Latvia.
Priority should have a nest with the old stork, which has a transmitter.
The camera is not the most important.

It is possible to use the same tracker method for different species of juveniles leaving our webcam nests in Estonia. Much depends on the funding capacity. Nowadays there are safe tracking devices developed for majority of bigger bird species.

here it must be inserted that there may be deviations of the use if: .....

if it is legally still possible !?

I have not learned the English language, it is hard to explain!

If the nests are not occupied? That is what this topic is about. My first post asks for members opinions and a discussion of how to proceed if situations change.

Subsequently added - :puzzled:

In the text for the donation

But I think Karl is again successful in 2018

1 transmitter should be reserved for him, for 1 baby

If the nest is not occupied in the next year, the first one who appears in the nest, gets a transmitter. Hopefully it is not Urmas :rotf:

Ute, this is a discussion. We must decide what happens when the nest remains empty. You do not decide it alone. We also have donated. :shake:
