Re: Fall in Oregon, USA
a couple more birds from my dad.
A Towhee -- often you can find these by listening, looking for their dinner, they kick up the leaves under bushes.
Song Sparrow -- in this part of the country I think they are usually darker than this.
Out on a walk in the pouring rain without my camera I saw a bunch of crocus -- purple showing above the green, although they were not yet in full bloom.

More from my dad
Yesterday's bird -- An American Robin
And today's
A an adult Bald Eagle and a youngster
The young eagle is eating a goose -- no wonder the geese panic when Bald Eagles fly over.

Alice, what lucky you are! Your dad has taken beautiful photos!
Here in Finland I see only tits, and some times a couple of Wood peckers, yes, and Black birds, Mag pies. We have about 5-6-7 weeks till some kind of spring time.

We really do not have much of a winter -- it is more like a long miserable autumn. While many of our summer birds go south, we have many winter birds that come here from the north or the mountains.
Yesterday's Bird: a young scruffy Red Tailed Hawk (Buzzards seem very similar -- even the calls are a little alike)
Today's Bird: a rather handsome and dapper Scrub Jay

Lovely photos, Alice, thank you & your dad. I am envious of your "long miserable autumns" compared to our harsh Midwestern winters!

My camera is working. I reformatted the old camera flash memory card and it works fine. I formatted the new bigger memory card and the camera thinks it works fine, but so far the computer is blind to it .... So for now it sits in its box.

Fall 2011
The rains have returned so I think it is fair to say that Fall is here.
Luckily the flowers are still here as well.

I think of these Orb Spiders (?) as being a sign of autumn but they have been congregating in pathways for weeks, maybe since early August -- but now that fall is here they are getting bigger.
