I liked both states. They seemed to contain every type of geography / geology in America, but in a localized region. If you wanted mountains, you had those. If you wanted desert, you had that. If you wanted prairies, they were there; volcanoes, yep; rain forest, yep. Etc. I really liked that area. :loveshower:

We moved here when I was a kid -- after a tornado took out parts of Waukegan, Il. just a couple blocks from where we lived. I took care of my grandfather for the better part of a year in Fort Wayne Indiana and spent the summer with my mother in Hartford Ct, but other than that and my year in France I have not lived east of the Cascade Mountains. I am spoiled -- but there are no jobs here

I should know what these berries are but I don't at the moment. They were planted for our Robins (thrushes that seem a lot like Fieldfares). The Robins do not seem to like them -- but they are pretty happy to eat them if were get ice or snow round about January.

Image

These are in my backyard with the mostly bare birches just visible above them.

Alice, I have one that looks just ike that, only smaller. It is Pyracantha. Sharp thorns. A gardener identified it a few days ago so I feel confident to give it the name!

Yes that name sounds right and about half the branches have long sharp thorns.

This is huge it is taking over. I cut out a couple of large dead branches which I am having trouble dealing with because of the thorns.

More Red Maple Leaves
I think I took these Friday afternoon (unless it was Saturday) just as the sun peeked out from a few clouds.

I think these are the same kind of trees as I posted earlier, but those other trees are now almost empty.
