 Yes, it was a surprise that all squirrels got hiding for almost three months. And now they are back, from the 30. October.

This morning at 8:17:

I guess that this one is a female. She was there just about for one minute and then came an other squirrel, a male, a more grayish one:

The same grayish squirrel as above:

It was just time of sun rice, all at once there was light enough to zoom the squirrel.

Hi, macdoum! Yes, all these about three (or four) squirrels we have now seen during last week, look good. Somehow they are more alert than we were used to see. At the end of summer I heard some hawks calling with her sibling in several nights, there were also actually two hawks which I was sure could cause danger for squirrels. Also other pray birds have been flying by, - I don't recognize them for sure. But there are lots of moles too this year, I have even heard that we have a very good mole year here in Finland.

I still just wonder where our squirrels have been hiding. There is something different to the normal years in our nature, e g it has been for weeks more than 3 degrees warmer than normally. I have not a hint if this has something to with 'hideous' squirrels.

Welcome back, Squirrels. It felt a bit empty here, while they wre away.

Temperatures - it has been unusually warm here, too and we are supposed to have an easier winter this year. The last two winters have been unusually hard for UK.

Yes, Jo. Something was missing, you are right. I was even almost mourning some times while the squirrels were away! Suddenly then they appeared. It may be a sign of the winter to come sooner than we humans are able to know.

When you have time you could open a Fall and Winter in Finland 2011-2012, or something like that.

Today in the afternoon, at 15:30

I have to say that squirrel I think I recognized. It's a young male, born here on the Sguirrel Hill in the summer 2010.
We didn't gave him name. He was not very often to see. But there in on his face some traits which remind me of that certain squirrel boy - I called him sometimes Baby face. Of course he is grownup now, but his head is still like 'rather big' and baby like..

Hello Olga, your cute little squirrels have returned, congratulations! Thanks for the nice pics! :loveshower:

We are still waiting for ours to show themselves. A small heap of acorns, wal- and hazelnuts as well as beechnuts could not yet make them curious . . . :puzzled:

Also Woodpeckers visit daily, sevaral times during day. Their nesting was succeeded well last summer and we have at least four Woodpeckers more here on the hill.

WPs are very alert, well, all the birds are that kind of course. They never allow me to watch them, only by accident I manage to catch someone of them on camera.

At 14:00 there visited a squirrel whom I think I know. He was there a good while, but seemed to have disturbed by small birds. Tits too, we have more than earlier years.

I have uploaded a video, three minutes long with music.. Hm, but I think I'll change the music (J.S. Bach by guitar) to a Finnish Fall song, and upload the video once more.

A serie of pictures from the video to come later on.

Syyslaulu" / "Autumn Song".

Melody: Erna Tauro, lyricks: Tove Jansson

I believe that 'Moomin creator' Tove Jansson loved squirrels because there are some figures of squirrels in her art.
