continues, Anja, the 9th May

She behaved just the same way as always, eating, looking around, meditating. Now she jumped up to the fat ball of the wood pecker couple, tasted it and jumped down..checked the ground under the feeder, and continued eating.

11th May!

First the video :bounce:

at 5:55 in the morning. I am not often awake at that early! Who is she?? Do I dear to tell what I think.. :slap:

She resembles Anja but is one other female! I'll put later photos where their difference can be seen better. But first of all, this female has no a 'bald area in fur on the right side'. This squirrel too, has scars on her body (and some normal spots when the fur is changing to brown), but they are in different places.

With music by Debussy ( Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faun  I know that the music describes an afternoon of a faune, but there was no 'early morning' to be found for the moment):

The same video, with the original voice:

Good evening

May I represent, two well known squirrels on the Squirrel Hill,:

First a double pic to compare:

Their real colors can't be seen well enough, lightning is different on the two pics. Squirrels are changing the winter fur to a new, summer fur. Only after the color change it is possible to be for 100% sure that the 'Silk ear' on the right is the same Silk ear who was one of the regular visitors in last summer:

Their noses are different, not much!

I have not so many pics of 'Silk ear who visited this morning at 5:55. I hoped I could choose pics of both, of Anja and of Silk ear in same pose (as much as possible). That comparison I will do later - please, Silk ear!! We are waiting for you!

Silk ear, the best pics from the morning, at 5:55:

On the photo above she looks just similar to Anja, yes, but it is not Anja. It's not allways so easy to recognize them, be cause they can move their noses, for e g.

They are so cute.

About the scar. I noticed on the bear blog brit is linking to in the other animals thread that one of the bears scratched itself getting into out of a too small den -- and she has a huge gash in her fur -- 6 months later. Maybe some of the visible scars we see are not too bad.

Although I think, missing fur in the winter might be terrible.

yes, it has to have been nasty freezing, so a small animal that a squirrel is, and we had more than - 20-25 for weeks over -30 C during several night and days!

Anja has some other smaller bald areas too, on her neck on the right side e g . The bald areas seem to be just on the same places where the injuries were to see. Silk ear got injuries too, the right side of her mouth looked bad about for two three weeks, but it seemed to recover well. She had also wounds on her body here and there, like done someone with curved nails. If it was a cat who caused the wounds I am happy to know that squirrels learn to avoid cats. And seemingly they are able to defend themselves too, quite well.

They will be all quite funny looking before they get the red brown color - spotted squirrels, soon without tassels on ears.

The same WP, today at 10:00 - he likes more the fat ball than the female, he is seen more often than his mate.

I suppose, this is also a guess, that the squirrel today was this, I called it as Baby, 3rd October 2010, born in summer time.

Some more pics of Baby here:

viewtopic.php?p=82282#p82282

------------

I think of Charley too, he had so nice ear tassels.. the 4th October 2010

He too looks young, but a bit older than the 'Baby' The head of Charley is relative big and short too. Well, I don't know, but I suppose that he was born in the spring time. 8-)
