There was quite strong wind last night, and in the morning we saw the truth. One of the three spruces just behind the corner of dog fence has been damaged by Dagmar last week, I guess. The last night's wind has made that..:

It's the midst of winter and the darkest time of the year
but on the twig wherethe black apple is hanging from a new bud can be seen,
and it will bloom in April 2012!

I hope we will see that happen in next spring!

Yes, it is a pity to loose that spruce. It is still there in that position, half standing. It may fall down at any moment.

We have to be careful with dogs now. If the spruce falls down on its own is may be dangerous!

The roots are long and deep enough to rise and draw the whole fence there off at same time.

We are waiting till next week before calling a timber man at place. We have predicted to get a new storm and then at least the spruce should fall down wholly.

Uhh - another storm? Oh, well, if it is able to tidy up some details, that will be good.

Is it coming straight to you, or does UK have to share it too?

The box containing Finlandia fruit jellies bears witness to 'F' s traditions. In 1902, the fruit jellies were sent to the coronation of King Edward VII in a wooden 'Coronation box' which displayed an accurate image of St. Edward's crown on the lid. In 1947, a dozen Coronation boxes were sent as wedding gift to Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen. In 1948, Coronation fruit jellies were renamed Finlandia, but the box still displays an image of the fabulous coronation crown.

The previous lines are written on the jelly box with golden letters. This was not a commercial advertisement!

Thank you, Olga. That is an interesting piece of history. I know that many countries sent some very welcome wedding gifts then. 1947 was a time of great austerity. I think Australia supplied the ingredients for the wedding cake for our Queen and Phillip!

I am sure that squirrels have been scared, just shocked. But it is over now. Let's hope they are alright and are seen there again in the morning!
Our dogs were quite alright. The older dog was nervous and barked. I took him in my arms an talked him making him calm down. He was never earlier scared of New Year noise at all. Nappu did not care much. She had got a tasty roasted bone and that was what she was interested in.

A new visitor honored the first day 2012: Grey-headed Woodpecker, Picus canus. Not among the most common birds in Finland!





Alice, dogs were inside!

Squirrels are alright. I saw two of them climbing up and down on a pine trunk, but too far to catch them on video!

Happy new year once again! So nice to see that squirrel hill came well into the new year and even had a new visitor.
