The squirrel run to the other feeder under the apple tree. Only then I noticed the Wood pigeons..they were walking just under the window.

The Red squirrel and Wood pigeons.

The squirrel came back, ate in the silence and left.. I think it is the same one we saw on the 11th April.. it was not yesterday.. Yesterday I didn't see squirrels at all.

I think I saw Paula! She is alright. Gray body fur, rather dark forehead, cheeks pale. She used both front paws in a normal way. A video will be uploaded..

How could I forget to mention the long, dark tassels of her! I see, or I believe, that this one is the squirrel female, who will have later in the spring a dark, almost a black tail and even in summer.. Others, however most of them have a or less brownish or grayish brown tail.

Paula, in the midday:

(We have a little problem here in the garden. The fence does not hold Nappu. If I am not seen that often, it is due to this problem.. :D Today she again found a hole, or she made it, and went. But not far, and she is home again!..)

A bit later I saw Paula there under the apple tree, standing. She ate sun flower seeds from a cave that Nappu has made, and the cave is full of seeds!

What I saw interesting, was that her nipples were quite well to see. It means: she has pups! I don't know where, but not very far from here, I guess.

Some kind of video to be here later..also not the best possible quality, but it will do..

Yes, Nappu got a Black bird last fall time one day. Some hawk had attacked and seized the bird. The hawk missed the prey, it fell on the ground as the hawk escaped, when I happened to open the door. Nappu was there.

Nappu rushed immediately and took the bird and she was very proud of 'her prey, the dead bird'. I had to take the bird away. I was in hurry to do something else and just threw the bird behind the fence, and I went back inside. After five minutes I saw from the window how Nappu run behind the fence the black bird in her mouth.

She had got a great price by pushing herself through the fence.. That was the first time she went through the fence. Earlier she just happened to jump over the fence because there was so much snow, and the fence was so low, and there was a raccoon dog quite close in the forest e g..or a rabbit..

It has to have been a great feeling to run free, to take the bird that I stole from her. So, these are just my thoughts..

Thanks heaven she has not gone far, today she run around the fence like searching a hole to come back!

I had a plan to add music to the last video but this time youtube made tricks (or my PC) and youtube just said: an error happened, try later one more time.. :puzzled:

:hi: Olga: Thanks for all this nice pictures and video's from last days.

Nappu is a clever dog  .

A question: Do you know how much food (nuts, sun flower seeds) to you feed the squirrels and friends during this winter? It's a lot, or not?

From September to April about 40 kg sun flower seeds, and nuts 20 kg, maybe more but not 30kg. For woodpeckers I have put big (á 1-2 kg?) fat balls for three times, and perhaps 25 small fat balls for smaller birds, and for Black birds, of course the smaller birds like the big fat balls too.

I almost forgot: I gave also oat and wheat seeds, some kg.

BTW: I heard form radio that a couple, a man told in a Nature program, that they have given 8 x 25 kg sun flower seeds for birds, also 200 kg! :slap:

This winter we have had much more all kind of birds than in earlier years. It's a pity, but I have not tried to count them, the smaller birds (tens and tens). Wood peckers (three species) I believe there are still visiting about 8-10-12, most of them are Great spotted wood peckers. Yes, and now Wood pigeons visit every day, always if the garden is empty. And perhaps, there are also some 'wood mice' (?) too (I don't know what species they are). I believe that they are same as these:

The super great photograph has been taken by Jari Kostet in Nuuksio National Park (10 km far from us)! The photograph has lately been there on the front page of the park, and of course, it is a copyright picture. Those mice that I have seen shortly, look just the same:
edit: (there was here a nice photo of Metsähiiret)
I did not found it anymore on the Nuuksio Park web page. Of course, I have to take it away.. some of LK member have seen it now!
edit2 I changed my mind! maybe the photo can be here this way, behind a link to my Pb-album.. :puzzled:

The first video of today is from yesterday, the male we have seen a couple of times, appeared at 15:00

He has been seen also today.. He is really a country squirrel, alerted, he escapes very easily if the curtain moves, it is said here that the 'city squirrels' are different, they climb to the pocket if only they believe that there is something like nuts.

Today at 8:30. I came in my work room, and..

I had decided not to take videos every day but.. :D

She was so nice looking! She is the third female visitor, - best I think I recognize also Paula, Mops and this a reddish one.. but, it is possible that there has been also a fourth female.

the pics are quite identical, just a bit from different position the paws and head. She left so soon.

..He was about to come one more time in the afternoon but stupid me, I made noise! He left, fast, and did not return. Actually I have been there in the garden with dogs and a rake, the whole day long.

I believe they are sitting on the big spruce's top branches and watching to the garden, and if there is no-one to see, they come, somebody is always on guard??

A great news from here. There has been seen again Flying squirrels in the Northern Kirkkonummi, 7 km from us. They vanished about for 10 years ago. There was build a area for people to live, a suburb, 20-30 new single-family houses. But now they have returned. I'll search the paper's digital pages! There were pictures of the pair of Flying squirrel.

We used to live there before moved more south. We saw one of those squirrels, our cat brought it, a living flying squirrel inside the house! Flying squirrel need sometimes come on the ground, to drink water! There on the ground they are clumsy..(right word?)

The squirrel was not harmed. It was saved. We had called to the Small animal emergency center, in the same night.

The writer is a Nature Photographer, he has taken the very fresh photos at the surrounding forest of his home.
It's not a long article, but I don't trust on my English.

It would be interesting to know about Flying squirrels in Estonia!

I do see "our" squirrels run with grass and small twigs and leaves. But I think the reason why we don't see them so often anymore is the sparrowhawk. I saw him again today, so I guess he lives around here now. (and I saw two mice, one on the stairs across my window and a very small, tiny, little one on my way home next to my house  )

Flying squirrel - last weekend I translated the article about the bears in Alutaguse, and there are flying squirrels mentioned. I looked the German name and Latin name up. So I guess they are there in Estonia as well!

Actually she came on the feeder at first! And after that she stayed on the snow to eat sun flower seeds. Her paw is quite fine. I saw her using it a bit more than last time, but she seemingly 'feels' it still somehow and is careful.

One more male squirrel.

11 pictures.

He was calm, and not at the feeder for the first time. Is he not a photogenic squirrel!
