Re: Spring and Summer 2012 in Finland
Other videos and pictures of squirrels from the last fourteen days:
1st July:
The other one of the grayish pups ( I think the first one of the two grayish pups I have seen, has somewhat darkish fur on the nose, the nose of the second grayish one is gray. Of course the colors will change by time):
A red fur pup, well it's difficult to say is it a pup or a youngster..:

...2nd July:
Paula, or Silk ear, which is her name from last summer (I could not be sure in last spring who she is b c she was gray and she had long long tassels, - she got some injury on her paw in spring time - it's alright again)
Mops, early afternoon
she could be the same female as the one from last summer we used to call Smiley! - I have thought about the thing, not 100% sure if it's true..

Did you mean the last video of the 2nd July?
It's a Great Spotted Woodpecker youngster. It has still red hat (beret? ). WE believe that there were born at least three WP chicks in the early summer. They still visit the feeder some times, but I have put Sun flower seeds to eat for smaller birds and for squirrels during last two weeks. They prefer nuts ( and fat)! Of course I give nuts, too, for birds, but in our store there has been a lack of 'bird nuts'.
There can be seen several chaffinch chicks, greenfinch chicks and tree sparrow chicks, too, these birds we didn't see that much here in earlier years. They come and go the whole day long, almost.

Olga, I am sorry to hear about Bertha. She is very lucky to live on Squirrel Hill, with the kind lady who always hide behind the window..I hope she gets well, and comes back soon..

I am soo slow now..
But there is no hurry.. It has been interesting to try to recognize some squirrel individuals. It really seems that the same squirrels live here year after year.
Today I think I recognized one of the males, Lonely boy, from the video I took on the third July!
There will be quite a lot pictures of Lonely boy, if you don't mind.
Here the fresh video - at first sight I thought no, I don't know this male. But I did!
It's the same on the post from yesterday, too: '2nd July unknown'
and four pics from this video:
..if he is not the same male as on the next post I'll eat my old hat. There are some old pictures of the same individual, from 2010 an 2011:

Thanks for interest, Lussi. I am worried about her, me too as well all squirrel friends who have seen her. I have been watching pics and videos of her from 6th July to 15th, her condition looks worse than I dared to admit.. But we will hear of her, in 13 days I'll call to the center. I do not dare to phone yet, perhaps they can't say anything for sure yet. - I'll add videos of her later in time. I want to know first how it goes..Lussi05 wrote:Olga, I am sorry to hear about Bertha. ..so, I recognized Lonely boy:
He is not seen too often, but I remember him. He has rather short nose, how to say, profile, and somehow an outlook, that I just can rocognize. I may have mixed him to some other male some times, especially in winters, but Baby face he is not, nor Oscar, no Bud..etc
here some old pictures from 2010 and 2011:

I do not believe there are duplicate squirrels! Well, sometimes I think there are! I have been wrong!

6th July:
Paula (Silk ear):
Her face is a bit dirty. It's not 'blood'. Squirrels do eat Blue berries! Last summer I was sure that the 'dirty' was blood, dry blood. Well, squirrels had got also injuries, even quite worrisome looking tracks. But mostly it has been made by Blue berries they like to eat as soon as they are ripe! Now is the time of blue berries, and there seems be a lot of them all around the hill forest..
There will be much more dirty mouths to see, we will see later more of them...
