Re: Spring and Summer 2012 in Finland
I leave here some room for Bertha:
On the 6th July her right cheek looked like that. The cheek had begun to swell, I was a bit wondering what's going on with her..to watch it.. it looked not all normal. She behaved though just normal till the day 15th, the day she had to be driven to be examined, and to be helped if just possible..

Yes, Manu, how didn't I understand the fact in my earlier life! Of course as human I look at them with a human mind and see 'like' different expressions on their faces.. but.. what to do??Manu wrote: Olga: "Your" squirrels are all very photogenic. They are looking so cute into the cam-lense .
Look at Star, is she 'smiling'?? The two similar looking there down pics are not identical! She is smiling! ..I don't know what to say.
7th July:
I loaned a picture of some sweet Finnish baby with the key word 'mustikkasuu', blueberry mouht.
I'll go tomorrow.

With all the work you have been doing recently I think you are getting a crash course in squirrel identification.

8th July
***
And on the 11th appeared again a squirrel with dark red brown fur. These two look different on color compared to the most squirrels I have seen summer:
I can't say if the squirrels in the two pictures are two individuals or one and same..
The lighting and camera settings may change the colores biased, one and same squirrel may look all different in different poseitons and seen from different angle..

Here I save a place for videos of Bertha!
As long as they do not phone me and tell that I can go and get back the empty cage, I think everything is alright, Bertha is doing best possible, she has an own room, she is allowed to be in peace.
Some pictures from Korkeasaari, from last year:
People have brought orphaned squirrel pups there, and sent wool hats where the pups loved to be:

There are not just squirrels here ..
This slug is not the famous killer slug (people talk about killer slug or giant slug) It's name in Finnis: Ukkoetana. Actually it may grow bigger than the Spanish slug. What is the name of Limax cinereoniger in English?
It's all harmless and does not eat 'everything' they happen to meet, they like rotten leaves etc. I took it and moved it outside from the garden, in the forest. Its life will be more safety there.
I just hope that I am right! If it is the Spanish slug, Arion vulgaris, a highly invasive slug species, a pest here, accidentally introduced here in Finland, my garden will be lost. Many people are told to fight with it to save their garden, but the war it's hopeless, they say.

..there might be time for me to have little pause, I will edit some videos from the 14th to 17th July. The 15th, Sunday, when Bertha was taken to Korkeasaari was interesting. After returning from Korkeasaari two new pups appeared in the late afternoon. They had been alone that day?? And they came to search their mother?? I can't know.. They were lively and looked good, but hungry.
Two beforehand pictures of them:
