Seasons are changing and we could see the squirrels at squirrel hill slowly are changing into their winter clothes. So - it's time for starting the new winter topic - Olga, here you go!
I hope we all have the pleasure to see many winter guests, new ones as well as the well known old ones, with fur and with feathers!

Thank you, Felis

Squirrel news: Squirrels keep hiding. Not one squirrel seen for several days.
Dog news: Nappu's heat time seems to have begun.
Bird news: Tree sparrows visiting daily, also Coal tits. Some woodpecker has appeared, too and Jays! Blue tits and Great tits are the majority, and all birds are hungry from morning to the evening. They have three feeders.

 Thanks for all who posted on the Spring and Summer thread, thanks for squirrel photos for those who posted them.

Yes, a new season has begun. Summer 2012 has gone in the past.

Some changes can be seen each day.

Nanu and his typical expression, rather small bright eyes stare at you, ask what are you doing there  !

:hi: Olga, I'm back again
I'm happy to follow your reports during winter time. Hopefully all squirrels are well and we see them in a few days on your feeder...
Nice pictures of Nanu and Nappu in the sunshine...

Last evening I've started my own feeding season for the birds in my garden. Today I had a lot of visitors on the feeders (great tits, blue tits, marsh tits, sparrows, a robin and two magpie   )

Beautiful pictures Olga:)
Nappu is beautiful in the golden evening sun. She is looking a bit thoughtful, but no wonder, with the heat time coming. And poor Nanu too, so near, but still so far away

:slap: We have more snow than you! And it's still snowing!
I like Nanu's look! Maybe waiting for the little bird coming out of the camera?

Olga, what about Nanu when Nappu is in her heating period - doesn´t this drive him crazy?

Felis, that's interesting :D

The thin, very thin snow we have in here Southern Finland will melt soon. More snow is promised to become.. :puzzled: .. no, it can't be seen yet. After one week earliest?? I don't mean that I wait for for more too much, it's such a work to keep the fence clear. Nappu would jump over the low fence and run after some deer or hare etc.

Now that Nappu's heat time begins, I have to be very, but very careful with her, and to take care of Nanu, too. I will tell if something new happens..

Anyway, to see one squirrel would so fine. Where are they?? The people who fell down the part of the forest seem not to begin any house construction there, perhaps they will begin only in next spring? Everything is alright on the hill, peaceful.

Yes, it would be a distressing, anxious period for Nanu. A sad time.

But this time the breeder (and the actual owner) of Nappu said to me that Nanu could be Nappu's mate, if only he wants and everything goes fine.

Nanu is not very young, and last week we got to know that he has some 'odd' tumor (it is scaring, it was seen in X-ray) in his body. Of course it is heart breaking news, but.. Veterinarian said that the tumor can't be operated... ..but as long Nanu is fine, feels well and behaves normal and has no pain, he may do what ever a dog in that age does (13 years 8 months). It's up to Nanu... Time will show.

Nanu feels very fine, and not any signs of illness. He is never alone, he loves to walk long walks still etc..so we will notice if..it's too early to be so worried for the moment! I am happy of him to the last..

I just wish that Nappu's breeder does not change her mind! Anyway, I will be the owner of Nappu for 100% after she has delivered one litter. - Hm.. I dont' know right words in English, sorry. We got Nappu 'by free' when she was 3-4 months old, and we made a deal with the owner who bought Nappu.

:hi: Olga...welcome to the winter season. I am sure the squirrels are all well just preparing for the cold/snowy season. The know well how to prepare but your feeders are still there to help them through hard times.
So Nannu & Napu can 'enjoy' themselves (mating) if they wish ? Then you and us can expect puppies sometime soon ? :bounce:
I will wait to see what you decide to do....for the best.
I am verry sorry to hear Nanu has a problem in his abdomen...maybe its not life-threatening.... I will pray he is going to stay well.

Olga, I think that is how I understood your "ownership" of Nappu from the start, except I did not know you would own her outright once she has one litter. :2thumbsup:

You are paying for her in food and care and of course you get love and companionship back.

Best wishes that Nanu has a long and happy life even with the strange problem.

Seriously if I lived on the same continent I would steal that Nappu.

They are looking for apples! Now I have to be brave and drive to take those free apples which the 'hay field lady' seems still offer free in front of her gate, she has put apples on cartoon boxes there - saw them yesterday.

The biggest deer returned and ate the apples I had carried there for some three weeks ago. I didn't took video. They escape if noticing movemens.

:hi: I forgot to mention that I noticed a squirrel on the big spruce, too. It was then that I noticed the deer..

 There are they, not far!

I had to stretch my arms and the camera as high as possible to get the head of the deer behind the gate to see. I was standing behind the open window on my toes. The video is quite jumpy, but let's see. Perhaps youtube editor made it a bit better.

:hi: Olga: I'm so sorry to hear about the health problems of Nanu. Hopefully he will stay as long as he can with you and Nappu and without pain.

Wow, the deer were so nice and so close behind the fence :loveshower:
And it's nice to hear squirrels were near your house.
Little Nappu is sooooo adorable  .

Olga, I´m curious how things will go on for Nappu and Nanu
And hoping for many puppy pics

Nanu - as the tumor can´t be operated I wish him still many good and dogjoyful and painless days, as many as it could be!

Hi, I'll give 'reports' about Nanu and Nappu. Nanu has become 'curious'..and Nappu is not against..how could I say.. It is too early yet. In two weeks may something happen. But: I will discuss still with the vet and with Nappu's owner..Nanu is in good condition, he loves to walk quite long trips, is eating well, nothing seems to bother him. But if the mating is too hard for him, causes stress too much or something.. I am a bit worried, can't deny. We will watch and follow him carefully and follow how he is and how they behave together.

There are some black clouds over Squirrel Hill, but.. they shall not stay here for ever, eventually they always go away.

Thank you, all of you for good wishes to Nanu.

Olga, I am sorry to hear about Nanus tumor, and I also hope he still has long time left. As long as he don´t seem to suffer, he has a very good life on Squirrel Hill:)
Great pictures of the deers, and of beautiful BabyNappu :loveshower:

Hello  Time is going on very slow. It's about the 7th day of Nappu's heat time. Her bahavior has changed a bit. She is more curious about Nanu and the other way round, Nanu about her. Nanu is alright, no sings of anything wrong.

Here two photos of Nanu as baby in 1999, in the spring as 4-5 weeks, and in the early summer, 8 weeks:

Nanu was one of seven puppies. All his siblings were of different color!

:D It's not me behind Nanu but a Finnish Lapdog breeder, a friend of mine. She took Nanu to a Lappish dog Show in Tuomarinkartano, 2005.

Squirrel news:

I met my neighbor today. She told that there will build three new houses on the area. One of them can't be seen from the Hill road but the second will be just there where the trees have been cut down, and the third will be standing on the rock behind the Hill top, about 250 m from our house.. hm..

I said, that, yeah, that's the reason why no squirrels have been lately in our yard. She said, what are you talking about, there are several of them in my garden and I have been wondering where are they from.. There were almost no squirrels around my garden earlier, the neighbor said.

My neighbor's house is on the top of the next hill, a bit smaller one than Squirrel Hill, 100 m from our house.
