:loveshower: At least she is safe!

One of grey herons has a ring on its leg. Is it only this year that so many herons settled in Makov or does it happen each spring?

this year is special - in Feb. very cold, very strong frost (ice-covered rivers, ponds - food for herons) - since 1950 we have not that in middle Europe

Hi all!

I have found these 2 videos from Shumen, Bulgaria.
 Horrible weather and cold outbreak stopped these strong birds on their migratory route!

I think that people picked up them from the ground... it could probably look like during Plagues of Egypt in the Old testament!

"Because of the icy rain, frost AND fog, hundreds of storks are falling in northeastern Bulgaria. Their wings are frozen and they cannot continue on their way. Only in the Dulovo region there are between 200 and 300 storks in the field. The local RIOE (Environmental Agency) explained that for now nothing can be done to help the birds. Village people have organized volunteer groups that walk around in the field and save frozen storks." (translating: our baska/FB)

from yesterday that news are on FB  - the wet feathers freeze them and they can't move, they are in shock
CZ WS with transmitter (former patient from RS Makov) is in Romania - 3 day without new data
