Here is a link to a Youtube video, discussed on National Geographic channel. It's about lions catching a buffalo calf, nearly losing it to a crocodile in a tug-of-war.
It has a happy (?) ending for the buffalo - the herd returns and chases off the lions. The reality must be that the calf had awful injuries and the lions went hungry.

i just learnt about the new live cam, that has been set up in Linnamäe farm! It follows the life of a domestic pig and piglets.

"Piglet-web camera follows the life and activities of a foxed piglet (brown spotted-i dont know if that's the technical term for a pig skin spots) in Linnamäe farm. This farm belongs to Atria Farm LLC, second biggest pig breeder in Estonia with 65 000 animals. Linnamäe stock-breeding is characterized by green tenure and they have established a specialized wellbeing swinery, where stress-free pig can grow.
Firstoff, the little piglets stay with their mother for a month, then are moved to the withdrawal-pigsty to play ( they have a huge yellow ball) and after they have gotten over longing for mommy, they will live in wellbeing swinery."

i have been following the cam just about half an hour now... and i already see some "characters" standing up. couple of the piglets are playing like puppies, at least i hope it just playing because it looks like pushing for better milk places
2 chubby ones have Attitude :P and interestingly, the biggest brown spots to go with it.

The pig is lying on the other side atm, so you can't see the piglets much.
But if mother turns, piglets will be eating right under the cam xD they are funny.
sometimes they pat they little snouts against each-other, like ramming, think it's friendly??

I strongly agree with Macdoum. What dreadful conditions to keep animals in. I don't want to watch that cam. Poor mother pig doesn't seem to have room to turn around.

Kenny, I think it was a good idea to bring it here, so we can see why very few people like factory farming.

i know,, this pen is for the mother while she is giving birth or nursing only.. otherwise they are free. It was written on the site that this pen structure is around her so she can't harm herself or the piglets. so i think it is not just to restrain her against her will as tight as possible. they are running about and the piglets are running in the little piglet kindergarden with the yellow ball :)
so they are not really stressed about the pen.

they actually pointed out on the site, that they were trying to create as stress free environment for the pigs as possible.

^-- says that the pigs, who are not nursing, have three rooms with climate control: sleeping area, eating area and porch --from where the pigs can go outside at all times. and quality feed.
also they have like warming lights O_o

well i just tryed to explain that this site actually is trying to make better living environment for the pigs than ususal.

but you don't have to watch :P i just liked Babe and thought it is cool to see 2 week old piglets running around :P

If they can go outside when they want, there is not much wrong.

It is too easy to misunderstand, from seeing just one viewpoint.

yes, as i understood, the pen is around only until the piglets are sucking milk, after the piglets are taken to the "kindergarden room", the mother is set free to live in the three room penthouse with the outside porch.(which btw is better than i have, i live in 2 room place with no porch :P)

anyway i understand that pen thing, it is sometimes that when the mother turns while the really tiny piglet is sucking on one side, she can turn and lay on the piglet. and sort of smash the little one O_o. I don't know much about farm life either but it's maybe interesting to learn, at least until out wild life cameras (winter season premier)

I think in a way it's good that there is such a cam - i bet many children don't even know nowadays where the pork comes from what their parents buy in supermarkets.
On the other hand i'm not sure would i like to watch my pork grow up (though happily)and then eat it.
But until i'm not vegetarian ....it would be hypocritical to close my eyes when it comes to food chain.
And if we would like to get really deep...don't you hear carrot screaming when you bite it...?
I hope it wasn't too OT...
And the fact is that i won't watch that cam for sure.

In his YouTube channel, David Neils is subscribed to MAPerspectives (http://www.youtube.com/user/MAPerspectives). Seems to be a good recommendation. There are clips made with a micro video camera installed on animals.



There are also a couple of bird cams ... though not cams on birds (yet?)
