Together with the Sandwich terns and many other birds today an unusual guest was to be seen at the Guadalhorce- mouth, namely this lesser crested tern, which …

Image

… enthralled all bird observators a lot.
To be honest, I never would have discovered this bird upon hundreds of Audouin’s -, yellow legged – and black headed gulls. But thank God there are friends who got a sharper eye. The short report from today you can find here:

Yesterday Birgit had been at La Janda and after many months saw the glossy ibis again:

Image

Here you find the report:

La Janda - August 7 2010

And Birgit also had been very lucky to discover a breeding colony of the cattle egrets at the wayside:

Who wants to look at the action in such a colony can find the funny chaps here:

That’s how it is like at a cattle egret colony!

Yesterday Birgit had been again at Tarifa and La Janda. This time she was more lucky with the weather. And ... migration is clearly noticeable.
And you wouldn't believe how happy Birgit was about these spoon bills:

But also about many many other nice scenes to be experienced there:

Yesterday Birgit and her friends were lucky, because they experienced on their tour a rather rare bird! Isn't it nice this European roller?

Yes, the migration keeps Birgit busy! But you cannot miss the chance to experience this spectacle and yesterday Birgit had been more lucky. Because look, how many black kites were in the air:

And the adventure bird migration is in progress! Today I had been at Tarifa again and ... only very light wind was blowing! Best migration weather also for this short-toed eagle:

Hi Fleur,

they once projected a webcam at the GB street, but I think it´s very, very difficult to capture images of the birds flying most of them very, very high or very, very far. Once they cross directly over your head, once they cross far over the sea. You never have the same distance which makes it quite impossible to transfer the migration with webcams.

Kind regards

Birgit

Yesterday Birgit had been at the Guadalhorce, where in the meantime the kingfishers arrived. Everywhere you can see them dashing around and also sitting:

The beautiful kingfisher. !
When they fly, a flashing blue shadow.
Here in the Netherlands have many not survive the winter.
