Birgit shows a few more photos from the last excursion to the Guadalhorce-Mouth, because there really was lots of action.

This Marsh Harrier for example … showed that she also eats leftovers

Image

Please find the short report here:

Marsh Harriers taking leftovers

And furthermore there also were the Greater Flamingos …

… whose photo report you’ll find here:

After three years Birgit finally succeeded to make photos from one of the wonders of nature – the birth of a Monarch Butterfly. Actually only one minute you need, but for that minute you have to be at the right time in the right spot!

Please find the complete photo series here:

Birgit and I are wishing everybody a Happy and healthy New Year!!!

Far away from all the New Year’s Eve fireworks we spent the New Year at Doñana and it just was terrific! For example could we finally watch a Bluethroat from very near foraging:

Image

And of course we experienced much more. Please find the report here:

Northern Doñana

I really liked all the photos of the Harriers
and
I sent this new selection off to my dad immediately.

The monarchs reminded me of my aunt. Many years ago for one year or maybe two or more, she kept some monarchs in a glass fish tank and took super 8 movies of them.

Birgit came back with a report about the garbage dump of Los Barrios, where she found White Storks banded in Germany and lots of Griffon Vultures:

Image

As soon as Birgit knows more about the curriculum vitae of the White Storks she will let us know. Here is the Griffon Vulture report. They were delighted as the Griffon Vultures started out in the late afternoon and flew directly above their heads.

Yesterday Birgit again had been at the garbage dump and met far fewer Griffon Vultures , although not less but 200 White Storks. Amongst them also three banded in Germany, which I already reported.

I also got some photos from an excursion to Doñana last month, which I would like to show. This young Night Heron was very much interested to to be photographed:

Image

We also discovered banded Black Storks and a Ruddy Shelduck couple.
Please find the story here:

Northern Doñana – January 25 2012

There is sooo much to report about my three-day tour to Sanlúcar de Barrameda at the Mouth of the Guadalquivirs. Lets start with the Brants, which surely are quite common for you during winter. Here this guests from the high north are rather a sensation when they are sighted. And I discovered a group of 12. You see, also even a blind hen sometimes finds a grain of corn.

Please find the report here:

Absolutely terrific also the dive sessions of the Slender Billed Gulls in a basin directly at the edge of the street. There must have been so many tidbits, because Birgits presence didn’t impress them at all.

Image

Please find the report of these elegant Gulls here:

Tide at the banks of Montijo and I was lucky, that three Bar-tailed Godwits …

Image

… were landing relatively close by. Never before Birgit had been that close to this beautiful birds from the high north and who would be surprised to see her more than happy

Please find the report here:

Here the continuation with the Waders at the Salines of Bonanza. Don’t ask , how many hours Birgit already was sitting quietly in the car to be able to make photos of these cousins. They continuously went out of their way.

... will be on their way to their Nordic breeding areas.
Bird migration is just a fantastic experience, which gets under the skin!

Please find the last chapter of my journey, which I enjoyed so much:
