From a Berlin newspaper about a cockatoo who, as its owner forgot to lock the lock of its enclosure freed himself and his friends. Please look for yourself:

It is funny and this is sad. Did the bird do it for entertainment or maybe it is humans' abuse that forced him? Not so good idea to keep that huge exotic birds at home...

This is an amazing video of a bird (not a crow!) using bait to fish. The bird is some kind of small heron. It looks a bit like out green herons (well...) but the environment is not right (or very good), which may be why it learned to use bread to fish.

Here is a story from my friends life. She lives just outside of a small town, just outside of Corvallis.
A deer broke into her house.

The deer jumped into her house. It jumped through a glass window (maybe it was being chased) onto her bed and then got stuck in the corner of her living room when she arrived home. It was panicked when it saw her and was trying to break through a double pained window. She said it was standing on its hind paws hitting at the glass with its forepaws (hooves). The first layer of glass broke but the second layer did not. And she said she was nervous that the window was too narrow for the deer to get through even it had broken both layers. She backed out of her house and called the sheriff. Somehow they got the deer out. It had cut itself in that first jump through the window. There was blood all over -- so she was not sure if it would survive, but she did not notice any limping when it ran away.

Alice, thank you for telling the story. It has been really dangerous for people and for the deer too! In the earlier years we too had here quite a lot deers. Their path went through the hill, I suppose. But not only deer, but also moose! Our two dogs deserved, I think, be priced that they chased a moose cow out from our garden one morning for some years ago. They saved our life, I think.

Husband was outdoors one early morning in November, and dogs were barking loudly. I went to watch what's going on there that early, and I saw husband standing close to the dog fence and behind it stood a huge moose with a tall calf! They were extremely beautiful and we just stared at them. I went to search my camera but at the same moment when I returned to the outdoor stairs I saw how the moose jumped over the dog fence and run towards husband! Dogs barked like mad. Everything happened in some few seconds, but I stood there perplexed, husband even fell on his back on the icy ground. I saw the eyes of the moose, and they were wild! Dogs run between the legs of the moose and managed to turn direction of the moose.. Husband stood up and run inside. The moose run in the garden terraces back and forth and dogs followed her. The dogs were just incredible brave. They managed to chase the moose back to the other side of the fence.. We didn't talk much that day. We were just silly people who had lived in town for most of our life, and we didn't know anything of how dangerous a moose mother can be. We have learnt it.

Last years we have not seen moose here close by, but deers can be seen in nights like flying over the road in front of car lights.

PS some members have already heard this story.. It is here here somewhere if only I do not remember wrong..

When I was in the Tetons they warned us about Moose but mostly about the males, although when I was down in a marsh (lowland with water channels, willows and lots of grass in the summer but lots of water in spring) I came a bit close to a mom and calf. My mother and sister wanted to keep going but I said let's find a new path, somewhere else.

I know the park rangers said many more people were hurt by Moose than by Bears.

although when I had to walk with a few feet of a Bear cub (a Black Bear) I was SOOO scared its momma would come charging us -- but nothing happened

Aww Alice a black bear wouldn't hurt you. It would more likely run away. But i guess you didn't know that then.
If you have followed the Lily and Hope thread you can tell everyone the Black Bears might huff and puff but they are no danger.
Meanwhile from 1st September in Minnosota abour 30,000 bears are about to be shot by hunters.

Well I still think a momma black bear might hurt me if I was between her and her baby -- I was really curious where the momma was.

But also on that vacation I came almost nose to nose with a bear --she/he was eating huckleberries -- which was scary, but we backed up and returned toward the trail head.
