(Off topic -- a friend of mine in Winnipeg sent me one of their flood web cams -- I think there are about 7 at various bridges to the north and south of the Winnipeg, their big city. I think their crest is about now -- although it varies from North to south -- all the debris at this cam astounds me. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/specia ... 97619.html -- today this cam has LOUD ads every 15 minutes)

Wow, Winnipeg has it bad! This is a different kind of flood than the one in Soomaa. It is more the destructive kind I am used to.

Dawn is very pretty today. The water has gone down, I see the white sign at bottom of the pole.

It is a foggy day at Soomaa. Water continues to recede.

The flood at Soomaa has receded greatly, leaving the bridge high & dry now, & the signpost is totally out of the water.

I think Winnipeg feels like they have coped well -- I gather in the last years they have dug new ditches and bought ice cutters (so the ice does not pile up), but it appears the floods further south in the US are going to be bad.

It is interesting to watch this cycle of flooding which is something I knew little about just a couple years ago.

More off topic stuff from me

Links to web cams in Winnipeg where floods have not yet crested -- apparently several gauges that said everything was okay -- were faulty. They are working hard to prevent disaster.

Some pictures and a story

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/ ... itoba.html

(In the Southern US) The Mississippi is apparently expected to crest in the next day or so, at about the highest since 1937 (which as I recall was about the same time as the big flood at Soomaa)

Well, the Soomaa flood came, and went again!

Shall we archive this topic now, and start again next year? Does anyone want to continue to use this topic now? If not, it will be closed this evening.
