Mari = a very old Estonian name for women
:D
i can answer for Vaino also - both Väino and Vaino are Estonian names for men
Im sure that old estonians mean by name kuremari (soo)kuremari - crane berry because storks are not real "kured" jõhvikad ja sookured elavad samas kohas, toonekured ei satu aga peaaegu kunagi sohu.

toonekurgededest on siin juttu (juhul, kui seda juba kuskil kurekaamera juures mainitud ei ole http://paganakoda.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&p=3993

okaskera, don`t be the party breaker :rotf:
but seriously- you are right!
facts are facts , as much as i`d like my "interpretation" :D
to be absolutly honest : okaskera corrected me- this kurg is really crane, cranes and cranberries are in bogs,
where white and black storks hardly ever go.

Even I understood that!! But the link was harder to understand, mythology in Estonian isn't easy, but very interesting.

Now we are much wiser - OR???? :rotf:

But, Kuremari - cranes are so much more elegant than white storks. And cranberry plants are really beautiful, any time of the year. A mound of moss and ripe cranberries on it, or the flecked - like bird's eggs - unripe ones, or the flowers ... So, well chosen!
And they are such interesting plants, too.

we don`t argue on taste- we fight for it!
and beauty lies in watchers eye!( or sth like that, at least in Estonian it is like that- ilu peitub vaataja silmades!)
White storks or cranes- beautiful and interesting, but above all - for me there are Black Storks.

When living in Tirol/Austria, I could take pictures of the red deer, coming into my garden to eat the remains of the birds feed, the camera was on a tripod and had a long wire into the room to make the pictures. It was in March and there was still a bit of snow.
In the "heat" in September they were also in the field and the males made very loud noises. Ricky how do you translate "burlen" into English?
