Introducing some facts about the wild pig camera
It is located in Southern Estonia, on the verge of, and outside Alam - Pedja Nature Reserve.

The camera is situated 110 cm above the ground – that`s much lower than last season, so
You can see better and have an eye-contact with the feeding place visitors.
We created contralight ( light effect used also in filmmaking) by placing two sources of light in two different positions.
Food for boars is grain and potatoes. For roe deers , there is a hay feeder.
Tartu Veski (the Tartu Mill) is helping us with grain.
Mait is the VIP , who takes care of the feeding place and also brings the food.
LK Forum will have an interview with Mait in February.

About Raccoon Dogs in Estonia.

From East Asia in years 1929-1950 over 9000 raccoon dogs were brought to the European parts of Soviet Union, from where they easily spread to Western Europe. In 1938 was the first raccoon caught in Estonia.
86 raccoons were let loose in different parts of Estonia in 1950, to grow a valuable fur animals population. They were released even in the territory of Puhtu Ornithology Station, it was like letting the rat into granary, as the raccoons destroy bird nests.
Raccoon dogs were very adaptable, population increased rapidly and their number was kept in bourders by hunting them because of their fur. A hat from raccoon dog fur was a big hit then.At present their fur is not valued anymore and today raccoon dogs are not wanted species.
Natural enemies of the raccoon (wolves,bears and lynx) can`t keep the population in normal numbers, and hunters are not interested to waist the ammo on them.
The sin register of raccoons : spreading diseases like rabies, the decrease of the population of the Galliformes ,who nest on the ground (by destroying their nests).
Nobody knows the exact number of raccoon dogs living in Estonian forests and coastland.We can only say that their population is bigger than ever before.

thanks, i`ll try to translate:
If the weather turns really cold - the raccoon would not survive for sure, with milder weather it will be ok if there will be enough food.
On the other hand it will infect many more animals,
so it`s tricky question- to feel sorry or to be glad when weather turns cold.

about possible gunshots near Pig cam:
...an explanation about the gunshots /../ It was not hunting, but in the area is a so called "safe-place" for hunters to check and adjust the optics of their guns. We told about that also last year, but I felt the new webcam watchers need this information as well.

Were are the adult boars, because I only see piglings and one year olds walking? I havent seen afther a week of watching, one older boar than maby 20 month. Maby the admin can explain me.

Dear friends, please don't worry when feeding place is without food part of the day.
There is no need (and possibilites) for 24/7 catering.
No meat in the evenings - that's for keeping fox'es and raccoons away.
And let's not forget that people who feed animals do it in their free time - they have to drive to feeding place every day twice no matter about weather conditions etc.

:peek: By the way, as raccoon dogs are back tonight. Raccoon dog is in latin
Nyctereutes procyonoides and in translation Nyctereutes means "night-wanderer" and procyoniodes means "similar to a raccoon"
