About Darla´s cube Kaia from Marwell Wildlife site

Amur leopard
We are proud to announce that a new Amur leopard, named Kaia, recently arrived and settled in well.
We hope that Kaia will breed with Akin, our resident male, next year and contribute to the European conservation breeding programme to help save the species from extinction. Kaia was born on 15 May 2008 at Tallinn Zoo in Estonia.
Less than 35 Amur leopards remain in the wild, making them one of the rarest big cats in the world. Amur leopards used to roam a wide area, living in theforests and mountains of Russia, Korea and China. Over the last few years their range has become smaller and smaller and they now only live in the far east of Russia.
The Amur leopard, like most big cats, has suffered due to trophy hunters and poachers killing them for their beautiful fur coats and for their bones for the wildlife trade – leopard bones can be passed off as tiger bones for use in Chinese medicine. Other major reasons include loss of habitat and depletion of their prey species due competition with humans.

Now, at 3:04 am Darla is seeming very listless and is not facilitating the bebes feeding. She is curled up and seems very ? tired.
Earlier I saw her trembling,I hope all is well.?
But I suppose the zoo staff are watching too.

She went out for about 5 minutes and has just returned. By her mouth movements, I'd say she has eaten! The cubs did not seem to notice her absence.

Just now Darla is out from the den.
20:46 and she is back again... licking her lips..!! and assuring that the 'littles' are well by kicking them too.
Nota; Please, does anyone know what we call the Léopard young ?
Kittens seems inappropriate or maybe cubs ?

Everyone seems to call them cubs, macdoum, but until what age?

I feel happier about her, now that she is moving around again and eating. The cubs look just a little more active, too.

Darla has been outside the den again just now.
I must say she looks much livelier now. She is looking well.
First thing back, she licked the cubs so well they were moving on that slippery floor.!!
She seems to prefer that particular corner of the den. Lucky for us she is in full view of the camera. :peek:

I was not sure until I looked at the site Juta, but I remember that here in Mulhouse Zoo three Amur Leopards were born recently. I can see in the Gallery there a photograph.juta wrote:I think too that "cubes" is correct name. Everywhere i looked they were named "cubes".

I seem to remember that the zoo director Pierre Moisson was very disappointed because the newborn were not "PURE" blood-line Amur Leopards, after ADN tests.
That is how I remember but I will try to find the article.

This afternoon at 17:00 approx. Darla was absent when I turned the cam on.
She was then absent about 15mins. more.
Looking so much livlier now too. Sat for awhile and then proceeded to lick the cubs, thoroughly.!!!
