Many of the eggs were stolen from nests of rare and protected species like Golden Eagles and White-tailed Eagles. The thieves "provided" evidence by diary entries, photographs, notes from observations and stored GPS-data.
The case could be solved by a cooperation of the British and the Swedish police.

60.Satellite fitted Imperial Eagle poisoned. Hungary, March 2013
The bird was found dead on March 17th in the Koros-Maros National Park. According to the Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Society, the number of crimes against birds is in Hungary much higher than in surrounding countries.
In 2013(?) 13 cases were reported in which at least 23 protected birds and several other animals died. Three White-tailed Eagles are among the victims.

According to the article, new figures show 60 dogs and 28 cats have been poisoned in the past decade, along with more than 250 protected birds such as golden and white-tailed eagles, peregrine falcons, red kites and buzzards.
In many cases the animals died after eating the banned pesticide carbofuran.

“Environment Minister Paul Wheelhouse, who chairs the Partnership for Action Against Wildlife Crime in Scotland, said egg thieves threaten some of the rarest and most famous species such as the osprey, white-tailed eagle and peregrine falcon, while other less well-known animals such as the Slavonian grebe and black-throated diver are also at risk. (…)
Police are urging members of the public to share any information they have about the theft of wild bird's eggs, or about anyone who disturbs rare nesting birds without a licence.
Information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111."

In 2012 at least two White-tailed Eagles died from carbofuran poisoning in Denmark.

One bird is dead, two were brought to an animal hospital. According to park manager József Fischer, the birds were found on Wednesday, along with a dead fox.

The owner of a dog found a bag containing meat on the edge of a forest road, close by the nesting territory of red kites.
Carbofuran poisoning was confirmed by laboratory analyses (DTU/Veterinary Institute).
Carbofuran is banned in the EU since 2008.
According to Dansk Ornitologisk Forening (DOF), nine birds of prey like red kites and White-tailed Eagles were killed by this poison in several places in DK since June 2010.
