Update: The White-tailed Eagle in Sweden – a conservation success story. October 2016
Sea eagles were once an endangered species in Sweden. Now they are a common sight in many Swedish regions and around the Baltic Sea.
White-tailed Eagle numbers in Sweden were estimated to be around 500 pairs before the population declined due to persecution. In 1924, when the White-tailed Eagle was protected by law, perhaps 50 pairs remained in Sweden. In the 50´s about 100 pairs were counted, but during the 70´s the eagle population faced extinction again because of environmental toxins like DDT.
According to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, today the country is home to about 700 White-tailed Eagle breeding pairs.

The eggs of the extinct Egyptian population of White-tailed Eagle Haliaeetus albicilla
By Golo Maurer, Douglas G. D. Russell, Friederike Woog & Phillip Cassey
Received 26 November 2009
Published in Vol. 130(3) of The Bulletin of the British Ornithologists´ Club
Summary:
Little is known concerning the biology of the now extinct Egyptian population of White-tailed Eagle Haliaeetus albicilla, and few specimens remain in museums to assess its alleged subspecific status. Here we describe three eggs collected near Lake Manzala and review the collection data and anecdotal reports about this species, to provide a better understanding of the biology of White-tailed Eagles in this southernmost part of their former breeding range.
