The wind has destroyed the oldest White-tailed Eagle nest in the Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve in the Netherlands in February, but now two new nests have been found. According to the Oostvaardersplassen weblog, four, maybe five eagles have been observed near this area recently, including an adult breeding pair. Dansk Ornitologisk Forening (DOF) received a parcel with a dead White-tailed Eagle.

Video by DOFBirdLife, 10 April 2013

Edit: b.h-p made the summary translation below. Thanks a lot!

“The 9th of April 2013 DOF recieved a parcel with unusual content. A dead WtE. Found by a family in a forest in the south of Jutland. The family did take a photo of the dead bird and did put it on the Facebook site of DOF and asked which bird this was and was contacted by DOF afterwards. Together with DOF members they succeeded in finding the dead WtE again, and that was why the WtE arrived in a parcel to DOF in Copenhagen. The dead bird is now going to be examined in a try to find out what caused the it´s death – illness, poison or what else. But some time will pass before the result of this is clear. There is luckily no breedingpairs in the area where the bird was found, but it might have been a future breedingbird. The rest is instructions in what to do if someone do find a dead WtE.”

Very good news from Mull: The wonderful, heartwarming story of the young Eagle Kellan.

“A young white-tailed eagle whose survival has already defied all the odds has delighted his rescuers by returning to his birthplace after two years in the wilderness.” (The Press and Journal, 12 April 2013. By Morag Lindsay)

Good news from The Netherlands: Two White-tailed Eagle chicks were born in de Biesbosch. White-tailed eagles are extremely rare birds in The Netherlands. This is the second time the bird has bred in de Biesbosch in modern times.

Also good news from Ireland: Three baby white-tailed eagles have been born in Ireland for the first time in 100 years!

Image

"This is a truly momentous event", said Dr. Allan Mee, project manager for the Golden Eagle Trust. "It seems a long time since we collected these birds as chicks from nests in the wild in Norway and to see them now nesting in the wild themselves in Ireland is the day we have all been waiting for". (Source: The Golden Eagle Trust http://www.goldeneagle.ie/index.php?opt ... Itemid=198)

The White-tailed Eagle returned to the Netherlands in 2006. Now another species seems to be back from extinction: the wolf. http://www.rtlnieuws.nl/editienl/wolf-m ... oodgereden

White-tailed eagle chicks ready to make historic flight

More good news from Ireland, even though the female bird left her family some weeks ago.
According to Independent.ie, she was spooked away by a CCTV camera (Closed Circuit Television), which was set up some distance away from the nest to protect the birds.

Article + close up video of a young white tailed eagle (although the maker of the video thinks it'a a golden eagle, according the article) in a Norwegian newspaper. Video taken in Reisa National Park in Northern Norway:

http://www.nordlys.no/web-tv/article6827428.ece

This WTE looks wellfed and is wet all over. Looks to me that it has miscalculated when trying to catch fish and then had to swim ashore again, and that it is resting and drying. Fantastic sound of the wings when it takes off at the end of the video.
