I came across an interesting WtE story a couple of weeks ago. Here a brief summary:

A 10-year-old White-tailed Eagle named Stan decided to fly away during the “Flight of the Eagles Show” at Warwick Castle on September 6th 2012. Stan is named after Kazakhstan, where he is originally from. Meanwhile, even though he lived in captivity almost all the time at the castle for more than eight years, Stan managed to survive “in the wild” for 2 ½ month. Since his escape he has been spotted several times. To quote the Leamington Courier: “Stan (…) is seemingly enjoying spreading his wings and is happy to go whichever way the wind blows.”

@ members from Austria: Please help to prevent/to investigate the illegal killing of White-tailed Eagles.

"Winter is a dangerous time for White-tailed Eagles in Austria. The White-tailed Eagle feeds mainly on waterfowl and fish, but in the wintertime the birds feed also on carrion, and so they are easy targets for poisoning. The most common poison is the pesticide Carbofuran, which is banned in the EU since 2008. It is a pinkish-purple powder. WWF biologist Flora Hejjas encourages everyone who sees something suspicious to call the Austrian poison hotline. Even if you are not sure – report the incident."

Good news for White-tailed Eagles and Ospreys in in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. A local brewery has donated 40.000 Euro to the eagle conservation plan of the Müritz National Park.
The money will be used for the protection of eagle breeding areas and habitats. :2thumbsup:

I had to delete a comment in the topic "WtE in the Media" - I´m sorry, I forgot to close the topic after I created it.
The database itself is not open for comments, because it´s easier for the community to find information this way.

Good news for the WTE in Ostholstein (Germany) - in 5 hunting districts lead ammunition has been forbidden, also for the protection of WTE as 40% of the dead WTE died of lead poisoning! Some hunters still think they have to "discuss" such things, but it is a step into the right direction!

Wildlife expert Richard James has predicted that Stan, the missing White-tailed Eagle from Warwick Castle, should be able to survive in 2013 - provided he keeps clear of overhead power lines and has a ready supply of roadkill.
Since his escape the bird has been spotted several times. If Stan is still alive, he has managed to survive “in the wild” for four month now.

After eight years in captivity, the 10-year-old eagle decided to fly away during the “Flight of the Eagles Show” at Warwick Castle on September 6th 2012. Stan is named after Kazakhstan, where he is originally from.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best! :D

Happy News: The White-tailed Eagle is also back in the Netherlands. As in other European countries, the WtE became extinct in the Netherlands. Since 2006 they are back. First there was one breeding pair in the Oostvaardersplassen, meanwhile there are also nests near the Zwarte Meer, Biesbosch and Lauwersmeer. Now two young birds were spotted on the Island of Texel; one of them is a ringed female which was born last year in the Lauwersmeer area. According to Eric Menkveld (Natuurmonumenten administrator), the White-tailed Eagle is a rare visitor on Texel. An eagle could be observed there earlier this year and in 2012. But before this it´s been four years that a White-tailed Eagle was seen on the island.

A young WtE from Germany was spotted near Gent in the Lys valley at the End of February – a very rare winter visitor in Belgium. The observers try to figure out now where exactly the bird hatched.

This White-tailed Eagle was spotted a few days ago at Houghton, Norfolk (UK). According to the owner of Gary´s Birding Blog, the bird next to the eagle is a buzzard...
