NEST OBSERVATIONS ESTLAT Osprey Nest 1 Madis & Piret ~ 2012

Post by Jo UK »

Another new nest webcam for 2012! This is an osprey nest, and apart from the JW player link, I have no information at all about this.
Sorry that this is not our usual standard, but the webcam is online so we may as well look at it, until someone can tell us something about it.

Edit 25. 4. 2012
Thanks to Urmas and Liis for excellent article about Estonian Osprey webcams - there are TWO webcams both in the ESTLAT joint Estonian-Latvian project Eagles Across Borders.

Madis was ringed by Esa Sojamo in Finland, Lappeenranta region, Kymi at 7 July 2007.

He probably started to nest last year (2011) (the nest with two chicks was then ca 200 m away and fell down in winter time), but there are no ring readings from last year. Last year the chicks were not ringed.

2012
Egg #1 May 7 - Hatched June 14 @ 22:17
Egg #2 May 10 - Hatched June 17, first seen at 3:51
Egg #3 May 13 - Hatched June 19 @ 4:24

Ringing was done on July 19
NORI left leg plastic S7, the right foot aluminum ring (as Madis) A101-31, wing 205mm, weight 1,32kg.
UNO left leg S8, the right leg A101-32, wing 290mm, weight 1,5kg.
ELO left leg S9, the right leg A101-33, wing 270mm, weight 1,6kg.

Fledging
S8 (Uno) - first flight August 5 (6:24)
S9 (Elo) - first flight August 6
S7 (Nori) - first flight August 13 (11:14)

PIRET - was trapped and ringed (S0) and fitted with a transmitter on August 4.

August 17, Urmas wrote:
Today about 10:00 Piret turned to migration and was 15:00 in eastern edge of Latvia. Probably she will reach Belarus still today.
Yesterday she visited nesting place between twice - 11:00 and 12:00, also around 14:00, but was not on nest observed. Though once there were three juveniles in nest and one Osprey upstairs as I noticed...
Edit 06/01/2015:
Gender
S7 - Nori - female
S8 - Uno - male
S9 - Elo - male

Wow, another camera! About Ospreys I don't know much yet. Is it also one of those ESTLAT cams? Urmas wrote me, that ESTLAT is about WTE and Ospreys.

Thanks Bubo for the great pictures!
