Both are old Estonian names...
I think Piret & Madis are good names. :2thumbsup: Mutikluti thank you.
In all the confusion of seeing several ospreys I forgot all about their names.

Male is doing just fine: 3rd time since the egg was laid, he is here with fish, SHE has to grab it. But doesn't so far.

Hi Macdoum, I really could not say  I did miss if he pushed through, and the differences are difficult to see ( I am working on it :whistling: )

Macdoum, I think I have found a major difference: it is in the tail. Male's tail has rounded ends and female's tail has "square" ends. So, this would be Madis then? (another edit: I am still not sure who this is)

Edit: And the tail of the female seems much longer then of the male, and brown breastfeathers start lower with the male, more white feathers there. (meantime I cling for the ring to tell who is who  )

best wishes for good luck for the Osprey family

18.23 Madis arrived with a fish, but although Piret looked a bit interested in the beginning, she didn´t take it from him then he ate it all himself

19:18 Madis arrived on the nest. I didn't see any fish.
He is very curious, wants to take over. Piret isn't moving  so he is shifting sticks around the nest... getting in the way really.
19:26 Madis is still on the nest, perched on the right side.
Madis,go and get some nice soft nest materials, like moss or grass.!! You need to cushion the egg.

Jopie Madis has a ring on right leg.

And I am trying to find physical differences, so when we don't see his leg, we know anyway who is who.

Piret is digging out the nestbowl. She needs to to keep the egg safer under her.

At last Madis saw this egg from the closer distance... :D But he couldn't be with an egg long time, Piret decided that she can not fly away and sat on the egg again.

 Hi, everyone! I feel much better now than the past few days, so I will post a little today. I have been looking at the osprey nest. I did read about all the competetion for nesting rights in the past week or so. It seems finally the selection of mate has been made! I am not familiar with these birds yet, but I see they made a beautiful egg, such pretty colors. I hope to understand in the next few days which is the male & which is the female. If I am right, you say the male has a ring on his right leg? Do these birds mate for years or a lifetime, like other eagles?

:D Now she let him inspect the egg & roll it, but still does not let him sit on it!
