Experts sad, that the chick has to solve this problem, and the chick solved it in the end.

Male brought in two fish in one talon earlier.

Here's the video of the male osprey coming in with two fish at one time. The female comes in first with a very close landing to the chicks. The male has a band on his leg. There are screen captures of the mom's landing and the male coming in so you can see the two fish better if you click the right arrow. https://picasaweb.google.com/1060764665 ... 3588232386

Thank you all so much for wonderful captures and posts. So happy to see little one is getting his share. There is no shortage of food so should remain a happy nest.
Fancy two fish brought to the nest in one talon.
I agree with Jopie about this mornings headless fish,it was clean cut with a knife without a doubt. Has Madis been to Tesco one asks Lol. Very suspicious though.
I have only been a member for a short time, but would like also to say welcome to all new members. It is good to know that so many enjoy these wondeful birds.

jopie wrote:Nancy, about your post of 5.54 with the large beheaded fish. It is such a nice clean cut, almost like it was done with a knife. Doesn't look as if Madis beheaded that fish :puzzled: Surely not within 2 minutes!
Jopie, I agree - that was much too fast for hunting and beheading that fish - perhaps the fishery people left it out for him to take?

And please - there are never too many posts or pictures!! Thank you for everything you have posted (and everyone else, too).

Welcome, RFG (I recognize your work from the Norfolk Botanical Garden (NBG) eagle site ~ great videos!)

It looked to me as though Piret landed right on top on the chick, but I hope it was only beside it

22:18 Pontu caught Madis arriving with ?small fish
Image

Piret fed the two older chicks (I did not see #3 get anything). Then she ate a big bite herself, and settled down to brood. The chicks' voices are changing a bit in addition to their feathers 8-)

Nancy how do you post on the NBG nest chat or NBG forum? Trying to figure out if I know you.

I've just got hooked. The clarity on this cam is incredible although I can't imagine that a well aimed poop shot won't ruin that at some point this season with the cam at a low level. :)

So there is a fishery near the nest? Is that how the male got two fish at one shot also?

Maertha, I have posted pictures of Madis really giving the chicks a whole feeding. Don't know the exact date right now. Piret stepped in at last to feed the youngest but the older 2 were fed by Madis.
That wasn´t exactly what I meant, but thank you for the interesting information, jopie. So much food in the nest… Heavens, It´s amazing how fast the chicks grow now. :loveshower:

Thanks to all for the many reports today! :2thumbsup:

22:18 Feeding

Madis brought a small fish.
Piret fed the two biggest chicks, and the little one had no chance to eat :(

Piret was off the nest for a few minutes, she returned at 23:34

I don't think you know me, RFG - I don't post on the NESTI forum any more. I saw your videos posted on the Norfolk cam chat site and made sure to follow the saga of the several Ladies being interviewed by Dad Norfolk - your summaries are brilliant!

So there is a fishery near the nest? Is that how the male got two fish at one shot also?
Urmas, the leader of the ESLAT Osprey project, told us here viewtopic.php?p=141588#p141588:

"Fish farm is not far, did not measure, but about two-three kilometers and the natural lake is even a bit closer. So different fish species are possible to see - would be very good if some fish specialist could join our forum and determine brought fish by case."

some looks during the evening

18.08 noise upstairs, Madis most be there Piret looked up………..
18.25 no parent in nest, but then Piret arrived……………
18.48 a shower…………..
19.08 Piret called loudly – looked upstairs. Telling Madis that she wants fish? Noise from there, perhaps he left because after that Piret became silent………………
19.30 rain again, Piret covering chicks…………
19.42 Madis in nest, Piret behind him, it looks as she feeds. He left quickly. Don´t know if Madis brought something or Piret found a small piece of fish in nest. But 2 minuts later no more was left. Chick 1 and 2 got, 3 was sleeping . Again rain…………….
20.10 no parent in nest. 20.12 Piret went back with nestmaterial…………..
22.18 Madis in nest, has probably brought a small fish, Piret has started feeding, Madis left shortly after. Chick 1 and 2 got their share. 3 was not begging much more laying with its head down. Piret took the tailpiece and that was the ending of that fish………

4:19 Madis arrives with a BIG fish (it has a head, too). Uno and #2 are right there to be fed. #3 looks so little ...

Image

Image

Image

4:23 The fish's tail just flapped and hit #2 out of position, but s/he recovered quickly. h! Then the fish flapped again (a mechanical response, since its head has been torn ) and #2 is a bit out of commission.
Image

4:26 Everyone in line for food
Image

4:36 Finally, #3 gets some nice big bites of fish

Image

4:40 Chicks are churbling, Piret stops feeding and takes off from the nest

It looks like the little one would have liked a bit or two more, but mom flew off -- but it did get several good sized bites.
