Maybe it is not going as smoothly as when Mom is feeding, but Dad IS feeding the chicks.

Image

Edit: Mom seems to be interfering with it and places herself between the chicks and Madis.
After that Madis flew away.

20:21 Madis brings another lichened twig. Then he starts working at the nest - he moves the thick branch through the nest while Piret is feeding the young in the background
20:24 He leaves
20:29 Feeding finished. As far as I could see the mini-osprey got nothing or not much (but ealier this day he/she got food)
20:32 Pirets settles on the chicks

20:21 Madis brings another lichened twig

20:53 Landing noises from upstairs, Piret is chirping
20:56 Again some sounds, Piret is looking around. Maybe Madis has left the seat "upstairs"?
21:32 Madis arrives (with a clump of lichens?)
21:33 He leaves the nest. Chicks are awake now. Piret eats a piece of fish
21:35 She leaves the nest. The chicks are chirping
21:36 Landing sound from upstairs
21:37 Piret back in the nest

Thank you to Jopie, B-H-P and all who have posted some delightful pictures of the family, also for the posts,
It is great to know that Madis has been providing well for his family. I think it is so nice when he tries to feed the chicks and wish Piret would not always interfere, but at least we know that he is willing. All chicks looking healthy and if Madis continues to deliver fish at this rate, there should be no problems.
I watched a video of a Mr and Mrs Osprey going round and round in circles with a curved stick, dont know where the nest is but it really made laugh out loud, at the same time I was concerned for the chicks, as usual they were unhurt, thank goodness. I cant remember who put that video on but thank you.

from earlier today:
Piret looks like she is almost leaning against that big branch (which must be very dry and light for her to have flown it up to the nest! Here, we describe a branch like (dry and light) as "punky."

About 20:20/24 Family life: Madis brings another lichened twig. Piret feeds the chicks while Madis works with the punky branch (thanks for the term, Nancy  ).

If it's the same storm that is here in south of UK now, it will be with you soon. If it destroys any more of my plants I shall swear!

Just when I was about to closing cam. in the afternoon things happened and ofcourse I had to stay for a bit longer

14.34 the nest was empty but then Madis came. He found a fish, a large one in nestbuttom, presume it was the one he delivered at 14.05, and began to eat.
14.36 Piret came back but flew off with calls a minut later, Madis looked after her and was very attentive for a couple of minuts until he began to eat again.
14.41 Piret came back with that punky branch (thanks Nancy – will try to remember that word, it´s nice!) that since have caused a lot of troubles.

14.34 Madis taking fish from nestbuttom

the different size of the chicks is very visible
Image

And it makes sense that Madis and especially Piret have been busy by building the edges of nest higher - the chicks begin to move more around in nest which was seen in the afternoon when chick 1 seeked shadow when Madis came to nest for eating

22.31 Piret sleeps

Jopie,Jo,hafta grin and bear it...of course a few heart-felt swear-words will help. :rotf:
The storm has been a gone here.. we have only inspected the plants on back terrace, all gone askew. The winds were frightening, strong, coming from all directions at once.then rain belted down.
We are always afraid one of the big tall trees will come down. Don't think they did.
Tomorrow will tell. Hope that storm has gone and doesn't come back like it sometimes does. ...then of couse someone else will get it..like Jopie or our forum friends in Germany,or Switzerland ?
The nicely ripened cherrys will be bashed thats for sure. :banghead:
Hope everyone stays safe. Some friends had their veranda glass roof broken by hailstones.
