Piret is still guarding the nest from the cam support most of the time, so she needs that fish. The chicks have all had a decent breakfast, but probably Piret hasn't eaten anything 'till now. Dine well Piret!

me too, guess Piret waits with fish in a tree nearby, but whatever - I fear that doesn't work out...

Kukelke,
I agree. Piret must be starving ;)

Willy and Meierlein,
I don't see the pushing. Nori isn't late at all.
Sorry to quote my own post, but I had collected the dates, I will interpret.
Kapa wrote:Dates:
Name: - egg laid - hatch date - fledge
S8 (Uno): - May 7th - June 14th - August 5th, early morning
S9 (Elo): - May 10th - June 16th - August 6th, morning
S7 (Nori): - May 13th - June 19th - not yet

Duration [days]:
Name: - breeding -until fledge - total
S8 (Uno): - 38 - 52 - 90
S9 (Elo): - 37 - 51 - 88
S7 (Nori): - 37 - ? - ?
So Uno had had the longest breeding- and also the longest "stay-in-nest"-phase. Giving Nori 5-6 days after Unos fledging she(?) would just be in time even if she is fledging on Sunday.
And seeing her today so inactive according to flight exercises and rather clean the feathering I would think, that she will take another two days. Her siblings went very active the day before fledging, jumping a lot an flying from one side of the nest to the other.
I can't see that for Nori yet.
Greetings
Kapa

PIRET is talking to the chicks very loudly
and also clearly for me to understand ^^

btw -
I saw NORI flying from one side to the other
just before several minutes ^^

I don't expect Nori to fly today.
Uno and Elo made few very high jumps (with a few seconds airtime) and flights from rim to rim before the made their maiden flights.

Nori didn't show these nearly flying jumps. Perhaps she will today - or tomorrow, or...

If you mean adjust the size of the picture, you have that choice when you upload the pic to Tinypic. There you shall choose the size 800 x 600 pixels. Then it adjusts automatically.

(Perhaps you already got an answer, sorry, I haven't read all posts for today yet. Catching up :))
Thank you Lunan :D I will try again...

Hello Meierlein,
good to hear that.

As I remember:
Uno had enjoyed spreading the wings when the wind was strong, too. At some stage the wind had lifted Uno, who obviously had managed to find the right wing position. Then he combined the wind and little jumps, which became higher an higher. This phase lasted several days. But only the very last day before fledging he jumped directed and controlled. And he was very vivid, standing on the edge and watching the surroundings.
Elo was faster in learning to jump/fly, but the last day before fledging was similar. Very active most of the time, being interested in what happened outside the nest.

Too bad I have not seen Nori jumping yet. But I really think, Nori is just taking his time catching up what he missed out being the smallest and weakest of the chicks.

Did you edit your post? I miss a line, when you talked about Piret animating Nori to fly. I do not doubt that they are talking, and maybe she really wants Nori to fly. But Nori is just not ready. ;)

Bye

I agree with you, Nori doesnt show any sign of be ready to fly, his siblings were super active the days before to fly, but he is just laying and laying most of the day and even when he is standing he prefers to be on the legs and not on the paw, i guess it still will take several days to Nori to fly.

Now is when nature shows the signs of the delays he always had been the last to eat, and getting always less fish and worse quality parts than his siblings.
Always watching the skies...

I think Nori is putting her energy into growing and that she will start really flapping in a day or two -- and definitely not in the rain.

Carma, I also think that Nori seems tired today. Pire's behaviour concerns me, I have been watching Osprey for five years and never have I seen the the female take food from her chicks.
Normally at this stage she would have started fishing for herself and also bringing fish to the nest. Madis has been magnificent and it was wonderful to see him feed Nori yesterday, What a champion he is, and deserves a gold medal. He is now having to fish for five, which is a lot to expect, hope he continues to manage, as it will be some time before any of the chicks can fish for themselves.
Nori's behaviour changed from the moment she was trapped and tagged.
Does anyone have a link to the dicussion on the transmitters ? as would be interested to see what others think on this subject.
