We have a bit of an emergency with the forum software - a fast restore of a backup is needed. If it is possible to do this, we will lose posts that have been made over the past one hour or a bit longer.
If you post anything new, it MIGHT be lost, so you might prefer to wait.
I will post again when the issue is resolved.
Thank you for understanding and being patient.

But WHY?? Why would someone be out there shooting at that time of day?
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

I don't know but in general in Latvia there is allowed to hunt for example wild boars and red deers in darkness in places where they do damages for agriculture.Chimega wrote: But WHY?? Why would someone be out there shooting at that time of day?

Thank you, vainamoinen! As long as that is what they are doing, it's ok. Plus maybe they need food to eat. Just so they don't be shooting at osprey or other birds of prey!!vainamoinen wrote:I don't know but in general in Latvia there is allowed to hunt for example wild boars and red deers in darkness in places where they do damages for agriculture.

Yes, it's male of course. Typical song. Voice of female is completely different, very high pitched. Maybe it's possible to find some examples somewhere in internet.

vainamoinen: I just looked here first
http://www.owlpages.com/owls.php?genus= ... lifornicum
...
the second is a female, which is different.
I know the difference of the sounds not good, because these owls do not occur here.

Vainamoinen: I have a question for you
.........
Do you know if the Long eared Owls in your area, or perhaps from estonia, germany migrate to the south. Maybe, in our hibernate? ( north of the netherlands )
From November we go back in our province sleeping places count, and we know not where they stay after winter.
We know that in the winter there are many more.
Maybe you know where I can find information?

Yes, most of Long eared owls from Latvia migrate to Europe in autumn. My friend is doing research about migration of this species. I don't know if there are records from ringed birds which are found in Netherland but I can ask him about it.Fleur wrote:Vainamoinen: I have a question for you
