Hello and Welcome to all new forum members!

thanks to all the picture posers - I love the pictures of Madis arriving with fish
maertha wrote::hi: Isn´t it time to talk about names for our chicks? :book:

What about “Uno” for C1? Nancy or someone suggested it. I would like to suggest “Nori” or “Nóri “ for C3. It´s the name of a dwarf which is mentioned in the Old Norse poem Völuspá. The meaning is “tiny”.

And wasn´t there a group which wanted to name one of the eaglets? Can´t remember. :help:
 I did suggest "Uno" for the first chick. There was a group from Spain that wanted to propose names, but we have not heard more from them. I liked" Uno" because it is a Scandinavian /Estonian name and also means "one" in Spanish.

We should be careful about calling one "Tiny" - sometimes they grow very large! But "Nori" is a cute name to use in this forum.

20:45 Chicks are alone, preening and napping. I think I hear Piret on the cam structure.

2:46 #3 sits way up - his crop is huge!

20:55 Piret is indeed on the cam, she is calling a lot now.

Ah, okay. I agree, Nancy, "Tiny" or something like this would become very soon to small for a wild eagle. As mentioned, "Nori" means the same, but I liked it because dwarfs in the old stories are small, but often strong, brave and sometimes prone to fighting… So I think it could fit also for an adult eagle who was once a little bit smaller then the nest mates. And as far as I know there was no hint about the Gender of the original Nori, so the name may fit for a male as well as for a female.

Quickly checking in from the Pacific Northwest--Washington State, south Puget Sound just next door to the Olympic Peninsula. I was introduced to this site by a friend at The Evergreen State College's IT group in mid-April. It has become a major addiction. The Kalakotkas Kam is the best "television" I've seen in my life. And there is now a cluster of IT specialists I know who cannot go more than a few hours without checking on Piret, Madis, the chicks, and often the other cams as well.

Warm feathery hugs to everyone who makes these cams and forums possible. THIS is what we all were working for, when the Internet was new, and people with imagination saw how it could revolutionize telecommunications...for the better. Watching the family life of these birds has been a great privilege and inspiration, and technically speaking it is the best nature cam ever.

Thank you!

A good choice I love both names!

To name the oldest chick "Uno" is a nice touch to the Spanish friends. And as a friend of sagas and mythologies I would really like "Nori" for the little one. The declaration about the dwarf is adorable and the name would fit well. :2thumbsup:

Hello jopie!

As I noticed when Madis comes from the left side, it brings a fish from the sea, when it comes from the opposite side it brings a fish from the fishpond, usually it is a carp.

A short question, perhaps anybody knows. How long would the camera be on? Is it a permanent institution? If it is, perhaps we could watch the next generation :rotf:

Good morning everyone - wonderful reading what has happened since yesterday. Loved the names Uno and Nori - now someone needs to come up with one for No 2.
Wonderful pictures and top fisherman Madis keeping the larder full. Piret will no doubt keep building up the sides of the nest as her babies get bigger.

We have just had the first UK osprey fledging at the Glaslyn nest - the beginning of many I hope.

Don't worry Mireloom and welcome. Most of the times the chicks are not alone. Mother Piret (or Father Madis) are near to them. They often sit a little bit higher to the position of the nest. You can hear it and sometimes you can see the shades of them.

That's what the others mean, when they write the parents are "upstairs". :chick:

Cherie, thanks for the reply!:-)) I didn't know it. More I never saw father and mather on the nest, but only in photos! I hope to see them soon.
I read that Nori and Uno are the names for two of the Chicks. Is there a name for the third? The little one has a name?

The little one ist Nori, but in our community we call him "Tweety"! In the beginning we were very worried about him and we feared that he wouldn't survive. The other two often edged him away when Piret feeded them. But he is a tough little fighter. So "Braveheart" could also be a nice name for him :bounce:

I don’t have any pets, so I like following the life in this nest. And even if I do not sit on the PC front, I can hear the sounds. A little after 10 o’clock I heard some croaking. Piret looked frightened, stopped feeding, settled down and waited for the end of that threatening. – After a trip without PC it’s nice to read of happenings on this site. – Take care! Best regards! :D
