Re: ESTLAT Osprey Nest 2~ Ilmar's Nest ~ 2013
WTEs may stay away from the nest for very long time after the ringing of chciks. in the summaries of previous nestings of Linda and Sulev in 2009:
"Sulev returned to the nest 22 hours and Linda 26 hours after ringing. Both had probably though been in the vicinity of the nest all the time." (viewtopic.php?p=219386#p219386)
and in 2010:
"Sulev returned to the nest 17 hours and Linda 36 hours after ringing. Both had probably been in the vicinity of the nest all the time." (viewtopic.php?p=219387#p219387)
so Jürgen underestimated the time as 6 hours when it in reality was 36 hours in the longest case.
but as said in the above: probably the parents were near the nest then and probably they were near the nest again today.

Wow!
I did not even know that .
Well, right there is quite solid proof, that they will be fine with 99.999% possibility
Thank you Ame.

i forgot to thank you Jürgen for your pictures today!
they give a phantastic overview of the surroundings of the nest. the live camera is as looking through a keyhole like Urmas once wrote at the WTE thread. we can see so little through it even though it seems a like a lot!
the nest tree is so shockingly tall! i have always admired immensly these brave men who climb up these enormously high trees. i'm afraid of heights....
i think that the Eagle Club should consider getting a new fake WTE. the old one doesn't look quite creadible anymore. no wonder you didn't capture any of the ospreys today. i bet they were giggling to themselves when they saw that "thing".
it has seen its best years sometime in the previous millenium.

I think it was an osprey that flew in the dead tree - or maybe not, it seems to be some insects that fly here and there ...

Yes the tree is incredibly tall for an osprey nest. When I first saw Ülo actually starting to do things up there I was holding my breath... it was quite windy and from below it looked like he and the nest were in constant movement... swaying half a meter there, and then another half a meter in another direction. It will most certainly be a long long time before I'd be climbing those nests! (So far I "dare" to climb only the lower ones and the tree would have to have a lot of branches )ame wrote:i forgot to thank you Jürgen for your pictures today!

About the fake eagle... I'm guessing soon we will have something better. Perhaps something with a moving head?

20:46 chicks began making begging voices... is there a parent in sight? or are they just making conversation among themselves?
20:50 they stopped for a while... but began again making some voices...

Thanks everyone for capturing the ringing today, especially Jürgen. I had no chance to watch live, so it is good to see it here now!

21.15 The chicks seem very hungry. They are making a lot of noise.
21.16
Fish tail was gone fast. Hopefully Ilmar will bring one fish before the night...
