Re: Estonian Osprey Nests ~ DISCUSSION~ 2014
What happened to the body of Kaari? (I will never forget her.)
Did one of the eagle men come and clean the nest?
I've got a notion that the camera is a little bit higher than last year?

Having said that, I can't wait 'till we see our feathered friends again, Piret & Madis, and Ilmar & Irma, and deep in my heart I am so hoping to get a glimpse of Uno, Elo and/or Nori too, who could also be on their way now, at age 2.
Yes, I hope that, too. That would be very great.

Hi everyone!!
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

I hope everything is fine with the adult eagles and they return healthy and we can welcome on the nests here.
Yes, camera position seems moved a bit, to the left and down.
Can not wait to see and hear Irma on the nest impatiently calling "more fish, more fish"
while Ilmar sitting comfortably on the dead tree and eat the fish head, lol .
And many memories;
Kaari and her siblings lying at the nest edge looking to the dead tree and "talk about" (someone here "translated" this)...
unforgettable so many things...
Praying for a good season 2014

The parts of dead body of third chick was still in nest if we removed the camera in autumn.
There were mainly feathers and some bones, and rings. As in nature in such case nothing is buried, we did not use humans approach (even those are different in different regions). I took remains away from nest and simply left on ground. Feathers were now still there but bones gone.
Think it was close to natural approach.
Actually if we installed cam, there appeared flying adult pair of White-tailed Eagles who observed us for ten minutes and flew away. In nest some dry branches were brought in spring (visible in cam), don't know who but probably WtEs. Also Pygmy Owl was singing when we finished near evening the installation.
There we were with Joosep and trainee student Roman.

Thank you Urmas for this information.
For me it is totally ok. Now we wait for the coming "things", birds and observations.
Thanks for all your efforts!

Thank you, Urmas, Renno and Roman
Perhaps WtE-couple was the same one that we spotted and that made attempts to the nest already last season, April 25th 2013?

They seemed to be a bit "oversized" for this nest ....
But who knows how things will develop this season ....?

Thank you for the update Urmas, very much appreciated. And yes, returning Kaari's remains back to nature was the right thing to do, if you ask me. That way Kaari remains part of the system, part of the foodchain, sustaining other lifeforms in nature.

(I imagine that you kept the rings? Will those be used again or remain special to Kaari?)

Hi everybody. Hope everyone had a nice summer/winter season.
Happy the Osprey season will start soon and hoping all our favourite Ospreys will soon be back.
Eager for a good season with no loses or untimely encounters.
Thank you Urmas, Renno and Roman for setting up and taking care of the cameras and allowing us to learn about Osprey life and somehow involve ourselves in their daily struggle for survival.
Will follow the conversation at work, as I can’t see the cameras there.
