Yes, like a mother-in-law! Businesslike, calm, and confident. But Mai also has strong nerves!

Bea, good description! I could not believe what I was watching, and worried what would happen next! I have never seen an Osprey snap it's beak at another Osprey! Poor Mai...but she did an excellent job getting rid of the stick picking mother in law!Bea wrote:This osprey gave such a dominant performance, inspecting the eggs, moving sticks ...... she looked for me like a strong mother-in-law, visiting the young couple and controlling whether everything is allright
Thank you for the videos!
I am speculating now but I wonder if they lost their nest. If it was in a tree that was logged or whatever.
I know where I live even with nests and migratory protections & laws, businesses can get permits to remove baby birds of prey and take then to care facilities. Instead of waiting till they fledge the nest, and then cut down tree or demolish building.
Sad but true.

Birdfriend, I know! I couldn't believe it either. I did forget to mention this is also done for workers safety, so they aren't attacked by the parents who naturally will protect their young.
they should wait till after fledged.

What a fortress Mati has built! The little ones will be safe behind those tall castle walls.

Congratulations to Mai & Mati - already two chicks hatched
Hopefully the third one will also hatch soon, as close as possible to the other two
Can´t take and cut pics and videos at the moment - I am travelling in Mai & Mati´s beautiful home country right now :)

Bea
I've missed you but good to know that you are closer now than in the forum. Enjoy your staying in Estonia.

A moment ago arrived Mati with a fish, waited a bit, then flew away with the fish. Why?

June 7. Today, we sadly must admit that Estonian birds suffered another loss. Now Mai and Mati, one chick and one egg.
