If you see either the possibility
- to accept power lines as God-given
or
- to return to the Middle ages,
then you bring all efforts ad absurdum to achieve any changes.
You know that it is possible to make power lines safe for birds, we had that topic before.

Eden,
in Europe they are already working at that problem -
but Africa is different ...

I know, that several German Power Companies are working for safer powerlines since more than 20 years ^^

I know that Africa is different, I lived long enough on this continent.
In many African countries, a human life is not of much value, so there will be lack of understanding for the life of birds.
But nevertheless every endeavor should be made – by education and technical consulting - to make the power lines safe.

We don´t know - Piret is wearing her transmitter the first season ... so we could/can watch her way south and back home now for the first time ....

I wrota already some days ago:
Eden wrote:Last autumn, Piret first spent 7 days (August, September) and then 22 days (September, October) in about the same area.
If she is acting similarly now, we need a lot of patience and steady nerves. :slap:
Her flight-movements seem to be quite normal for me, but the proximity to the power line is extremely alarming.
These stops in Egypt - on the way to South and back to the North - and on the same place are apparently quite normal, Erika made them too.

On her way to South, Piret's flight took about 2 weeks.
If she knows about the cold weather in North-Europe and the still cold Baltic Sea, she will not hurry up.

The no data of Cranes could be problematic (cold weather in Northern Serbia, maybe also snow), but we need to wait for next transmission - from Cranes we get data after every 10 days only. And if one transmission fails, means during 20 days no data.

Eriks and Ilmar have GSM transmitters, so the journey over desert will be visible after reaching GSM network (usually near Mediterranean coast). There fore Eriks location stays in Chad, but tomorrow I think he will be active again.
