@Riita :hi: All is well here, just been extremely busy in real life, all with good stuff. :shake:
Hope all is well there too. :)

---------

Meanwhile Osprey Tiiu is still doing her osprey things as expected, as far as I can see. She has made some trips to the far northwest of her area, but likely didn't fish there. She also made some trips to the bend of the river in the southwest which she visited once before, but didn't fish there either, by the look of it. Some trips to the Komoé River she made too, and there she fished, and she has visited the southeastern part of her wintering area regularly, possibly to fish. She now seems to prefer to roost in the area 7 km east of the river, and uses this as her homebase. Probably less disturbance there than the other places she visits.

Hope I soon find some more time for a day-to-day analysis again.

Latest data of Tiiu are from night 6th. We need to wait for reaching GSM network.
In Tiius logger there is a SIM card of Poland and could be not every cell phone network provider in Ivory Coast has roaming agreement with that Polish GSM company.

The locations are programmed to take four times in a day in the wintering area. That is not because of lack of energy, but because of prepaid GSM fee. In non-EU countries the cost of data transfer is quite expensive. For next year we can make other agreement and get two times more data.
Think we can take also now more locations during one-two days, to see how much Tiiu really moves, but then need to restore balance between data and prepayment.
Used logger on Tiiu is Ecotone SAKER L type.

It is very interesting to see that Tunne and Sander are close together in the same place now. Do they know each other? :hi:

Seems in Ivory Coast the floods are down and Tiiu needs to be near Camoe river. But we already know - there is no GSM network. We need to wait.

Sander and Tunne prepared the surprise also for us, there is not so many hybrids at all and two random individuals of them winter in the same place in wast Africa.

Peeked today from distance to the probable Tiius nest.
She is incubating and transmitter still on back - so transmitter is not working anymore.

It might be useful to share an experience from here in the UK...

One of our 2014 juvenile ospreys was tracked to a wintering site in Morocco. The bird was carrying a GSM-type PTT manufactured by Microwave Telemetry Inc, USA. In January of this year, transmissions from the bird ceased. There had been no abnormal events or circumstances, prior to the loss of data.

In March of this year, one of our supporters visited the area and saw the bird alive and active, still carrying its intact transmitter. Good identification photos were obtained.

We contacted the suppliers in the USA and asked them to check on the GSM forwarding arrangements. Two days later, messages resumed from the bird, and the cumulative data showed that the PTT tracker had been functioning correctly throughout. We believe that the problem was due to a contractual mix-up between the GSM roaming agency and the data suppliers in America, resulting in an incorrect termination of the GSM service - probably at the Morrocco end.

I fully understand that Tiiu's tracker unit was obtained from a different supplier but, all the same, any bird carrying a GSM-type unit that goes "dark" without any obvious reason, should be referred back to the data-suppliers for an investigation to be made.

Hope this helps.

All the above was very interesting to read, about the return of Tiius and the transmitters.

I was very glad to see the map today, all birds are almost back home

Hi Guys,

The forum might be interested in an animation we made with Google Earth, showing a hunting trip by osprey Blue 7H in Morocco...
