Re: Migration Map
About Piret, I was living during two years in Egypt in Cairo, in Louxor and Aswan.I know well the country
no problems about water ...just follow the Nile. there are a lot of fishes.but also a lot of birds
many many birds and she will have to be "careful" , a lot of hawks, vultures, ibis, all kinds of birds
the competition will be hard. but no human beings dangerous. just a lot of birds. some of them fishing also
and also to be careful because the country is not clean about pesticides and dangerous chemicals.

something else about Egypt, hawks are Gods they are surveying the world and they are the link between human beins and the "skies and the gods'" and all birds of prey were consider by egyptian as very important birds
vulture is an important goddess symbol of the mother
the pharaoh was called "horus" name of the hawk

I suppose NORI (S7) and ELO (S9) are females and UNO (S8) is a male ^^

Greetings from Spain.
After raising her chickens in different nests ... after 2 weeks and 3500 km migration .. ... different trip dates... ...why are Erika and Piret 2-3 days together in the same place? Why have stopped there both in the same kilometer, when the Nile delta is 310 kilometers long and 180 kilometers wide?
It is a small place in the middle of a vast route, and apparently is nothing special there, but ... .. both are there at the same time, in a space of a thousand meters, and for several days.
Why?
Erika has rested the past three years at the same site, but why Piret has stopped there, despite having followed another route?
Can you imagine that we could follow the flight of S8 and ended up in the same spot in the Nile Delta? Amazing!
I'm afraid it is not possible to answer this questions, but I find it fascinating!

Did you see Raivo? He is on the right place. In the middle of many fish pools. He is a king overthere in Israel. I think this is his last stop?

Yes, but.... what is "instinct"?Dadel wrote:Pedro, Instinct?
I mean: why both of them in this point, and not one 5 km to the west, and the other one 5 km to the East?
Both of them with the same "instinct"??
Why Piret, at Mediterranean sea so far from the coast, changed course to go straight to this point, where was Erika, instead of heading to the nearest point on the coast? Did she saw the Delta from that distance??
A lot of questions!

Well, maybe Piret flew direct to the nearest point of the coast, and then changed course to go along the Nile Delta to the position that we are discussing.pedro yubero wrote: Why Piret, at Mediterranean sea so far from the coast, changed course to go straight to this point, where was Erika, instead of heading to the nearest point on the coast? My mistake was to interpret the option "route" of the web http://birdmap.5dvision.ee/index.php?lang=en like the real journey that has continued Piret, and it is not the real journey.
Sorry!

These data on migration map are only some of full route. Inserted manually.
We work on reprogramming of map base to insert all migration data of new type of transmitters we used for Piret and other new Ospreys on map.
Hope soon you will see more real track, where locations after every hour or even half of hour...
For sure the straight line between to known locations is not real route of the bird.
But Erika and Piret in same time in same place so far in Africa... that's surprise also for us! Seems to be important place for Ospreys - maybe somebody in forum knows somebody who could check the place in nature?

Thank you very much, Urmas. For this, and for all.
Perhaps Piret saw another ospreys in that place (Erika, etc) and stopped there; perhaps if Erika was not in that place and in that moment... ...Piret would have gone elsewhere.
That´s incredible!
Erika has crossed the Delta from north to south, and has stopped at that point in the last 3 years (maybe when she has reached the southern edge of the vegetation and she has seen the desert waiting for her; we don´t know ), but Piret probably arrived at this point flying along the east border delta from the coast near Lake Bardawil and stopped at the same place and at the same time that Erika!Urmas wrote: Erika and Piret in same time in same place so far in Africa... that's surprise also for us! Here is during my absent so many posts - I need three days to read those ...
But once will do that for sure. Probably there are also many questions raised an hopefully most answered by other members.
Thank you very much!
Checked also tracks of Piret - she is preparing for migration, fishing for herself on lake about 20km of nest. Today she was near nest around noon, during an hour. Other female Osprey we follow for sixth year, Erika, she already started migration, as well as many of female Ospreys in Estonia probably. Piret will inserted to migration map after her departure as quickly as can (lot of tasks to complete after being away). Male tagged Osprey fishes for his chicks and mate and will probably migrate quite late, as the chicks there were smaller as of Piret and Madis.

we should better ask URMAS
because of the New-Transmitter-Software
in my observations depending the Migration Map at that time - Erika didnt move earlier than PIRET
and if you analyse today - it shows on 13.08.2012 that long flight to Ukraine - unbelievable for one day

Maybe the Nile delta is an important last water and food point. Because of that also an meetingpoint! The Sahara is I think the most difficult part of the journey and it sounds logical that the birds stay for a view days in the Nile Delta to prepare for the last big and dangerous trip.
It is very interesting, thank you Urmas for your update, please inform us as much if you can.

hi i am not a specialist of migrations but I know well Egypt. the delta is a very large green place with water and not so much fishes
but if they are smart, there is only one way to keep water and fishes that directly to south following the Nile
because at east or west of the Nile that really desert and no water and no fish. but from the delta following the Nile (except crossing the town of Cairo and some others big towns) they will find water everywhere. look Egypt on a google map , it is green all along the Nile.
the problem start after Aswan around the lake NASSER, there is water not so many fishes and some crocodiles
but I don't know where they want to fly.
