News about Osprey Tiiu

Female Osprey Tiiu, whose autumn migration 2014 to Ivory Coast could be followed on migration map until her transmitter became defective, could be trapped and released from the transmitter in beginning of July :headroll:

But the "task" of sending datas about migration will stay in the family, as her mate was also trapped and attached with a transmitter, so that we will be able to follow his migration to south in autumn migration 2015.

Thanks, Bea and Urmas,

it is a big relief to know that Tiiu made it with migration even if her transmitter died there down in Africa :D

:hi: Hope you have a relaxing and interesting summer.

Autumn is on it's way...

I saw that the Hungarian migration map (WS) is already "moving" in the last 2 weeks.

Latvian BS are also going south.

When is the "birdmap" starting ?

I just tried to check if the migration map had been updated and made ready for the autumn 2015 migrations, but got an error and the page can't be accessed. Hopefully because it is being updated. Will check again tomorrow.

20. September

A new Osprey is on Migration Map ---> Markus :shake:

Image

No pictures when you click the name, but a lot of other infos in the text box

Male Osprey, breeding in northern Estonia, Lahemaa National Park probably since 2013. So he presents a new population of Ospreys in northern coast of Estonia. We don't know origin and age of Markus, but now he has also the black plastic ring with white code NX. The mate of Markus is from Finland, wearing the Finnish ring M 61123, but we have no ringing data, yet. She got additionally black plastic ring with code NV. In 2015 (and also 2014) in their nest two chicks were hatched.
Logger of Ecotone SAKER L type (22g) we installed to Markus in 28th of July 2015. He started autumn migration in 19th of September 2015. Before the migration he improved his condition at the northern shore of Estonia (Eru bay in Lahemaa NP). From the same area he brought mainly the fish also to the nest

20. September

Male Osprey Kalle, who started his migration on 4. September, seems to have found a good place for a longer pit-stop in Ukraine, near Karzhyns´ka Gulf, an area with many water channels. He is already there since 10 days.

Uff, I always find it breathtaking, when these brave birdies cross the sea.
When I looked yesterday evening, he still was near Cyprus, and I prayed, that he will make it.
It's interesting, he takes a completely different route than his wife did last year.

11. October

Both Ospreys crossed Mediterranean Sea meanwhile (Kalle crossed it near Cyprus and Markus later near Crete) and are heading further south :loveshower:

Kalle is currently in Sudan and Markus in Tchad, passing Libya before.

I am very curious about their final destination.
