There is a 2011 survey which gives some more information about the area where Makus is. With list of species recorded (many) including ospreys...

Thank you, Paul!

Interesting list! Would not be surprised when Markus has found his wintering grounds there.

27. October

No breaking news from Kalle, the one or another day datas are missing, he is still shown in the same range at the Congo, Mafuambo area

Image

Markus is roaming at the Lefini river, he stayed there

Image

There is a kind of lake beside the river, with mini-islands and big trees in it (? - at least it looks so to me ...). Seems to be his preferred hunting and perching ground close to it.

29. October

Markus does what ospreys do in wintering grounds, fishing, perching, exploring the area.

We have no new datas from Kalle since 25. October

5. November

Osprey Markus is moving in his wintering ground as one can expect it, perching, fishing trips to the river, sometimes exploring surrounding with a bit longer trips (arrow, on November 3rd).
But in the main he stays in "his" area.

No new datas from Kalle. I hope the reason is "only" a defective transmitter.

There is no new data from Kalle since morning 25th October.
Reason may be problem with malfunction of transmitter or no GSM network in the place, hopefully.
Battery of transmitter was full in that time.

Last year connection to Tiiu also broke, but she was back again in Estonia in spring .... I hope for repetition of this case for Kalle!

A sign from Kalle! :loveshower:

He sent new datas on 18. November :headroll:

Here his last (very old) position on 17. November ...

... and here on 18. November

No new datas after that, maybe GSM coverage is not very good in the area, or his transmitter is not working properly.

---

23. November

Markus is still in his preferred wintering ground, it is hardly possible to distinguish daily flight routes, but cumulation of the lines show us that he is staying in the same area at Lefini river.

:loveshower:

In accordance with the joint project between Estonia and Georgia a young vulture Mikho was fitted with a transmitter at the beginning of July. He made his first flights at the end of August but left the nest only on 4 November and reached Pakistan in the beginning of December.

We can see Mikho here on LK Migration Map - and there are also some nice pictures of him and the Georgian/Estonian team, that ringed and equipped Mikho with the transmitter

13. December

Vital signs from Kalle :loveshower:

He changed to another area with better GSM coverage, so new datas could be sent - but I suppose sooner or later he will be back closer to Congo River

Image

---

No new datas from Markus since several days now, last datas showed him still at the Lefini River.

Osprey Markus is still at the Lefini, but also made some longer flights and is in a different area than before.
