September 3rd

Thanks for another season with the map :loveshower:

I'm so glad to see that Raivo is not getting old! He is still the first ! No stops on the way till now.

While the 2 other BS Karl & Eedi are turning in rounds and are going back and forth...
Eedi looks completely :headroll:

I wish them all, to arrive safe to their wintering area and to come back to us next spring :2thumbsup:

Can I show here the map of the German LSE, or is this thread only for certain birds, then I delete it again?
The map shows the autumn route, but starts at the German-Polish border. The breeding grounds in Germany are to remain secret.

Here Infos about the LSE on the map

Think here are welcome every migration data!
So we can compare birds of different origin. Our LSEs are still in breeding grounds, but will probably start very soon - have to insert them onto map.

Oh nice, GSE and LSE now on the map, there have been reports on 2 GSE and 2 LSE latetely on Öland (se) so I thought they might be from Estonia with senders, but obviously not, hehe..
One of the GSE with the broken hp was seen 08-28 in Helsinki, really wonder what way it took to come here..
Both of the GSE are the light morph ssp.fulvescens, eastern?

Any more info on the GSE from Belarus, age sex history etc..?

German LSE

Petra, the LSE female is already very far. In 2013 she became the transmitter as adult bird. Felix, probably also a female, is already further. Felix got the transmitter as chick 2010. She / he is still very young and has not yet breeded.

Data & update 23.9.2017:

Update 25.9.17/Data from 24.9.17:

Osprey Markus has so far done 5000 km's. He crossed the Mediterranean Sea from the southern point of Greece. Now he is in southern Libya.

Osprey Karlis did 4000 km. He followed the western shores of Turkey before crossing the Med. Sea heading straight for Alexandria. He flew directly over Kairo, crossed the Nile and keeps near it.

Osprey Vadim flew a different route this year: He took the shortest route over the Mediterranean from the south of Turkey (Anamur), flew over the north-east tip of Cyprus heading for Lebanon, north of Beirut. Then he went south following the Gaza belt. He seems to avoid long distances over open water. Maybe something happened to him last year or he just about managed it. I guess he is heading straight for Lake Turkana now.

It's very interesting to see how same kind of birds, take different ways; depends on weather and on previous experience.

About Vadim :
He flew south from Lebanon to Israel ; he crossed it all along the coast, over large cities and urban areas (other birds are taking the eastern side, over the Jordan valley, which is greener and gives better options for food and resting).

On the map he is now at the Egyptian boarder and Gaza strip. He is practically in Africa !!

Vadim's link is there.

Check the full list on the left menu.

Perhaps if you refresh the map - you'll see it. I use the English version.

Thanks Abigyl! :D
I see now that Markus is in Chad, Karlis follows the Nile to the south and Vadim is also near the river. Kalle is still close to the Crimean peninsula as in 2015 (he was there until 29.09).

Update 26.9.17/Last data 25.9.17:

Osprey Markus is in Chad already. Up to now he travelled 6400 k's. So he managed to cross the Sahel zone alright. :D

The other two lines show his flight routes of 2015 and 2016, respectively.
