It seems that LSE Kaarel has been lost in Uganda, no signals for a long time.
Sad! Ülo Väli ended his EOÜ lecture with a little sequence with Kaarel visiting his home nest just before leaving for the south in September: fixed a few branches, sat and looked at the scenery … (Urmas Sellis & Ülo Väli, Nest cams and raptors, http://www.eoy.ee/node/417, about 1 h 42 min into the video)
Meanwhile mate Karin is in Zambia.

No moves for Luule after she went to Calabria in south Italy on Dec 2?

Nearest community seems to be San Pietro Apostolo, a few kilometres NE of Luule's latest position.

Update on Birdmap, data until February 14th.
Very few moves to be seen for Luule on Sicily. Is it because of the transmitter settings?

Good news today from Birdmap. :D
Tõnn also began the journey to the north of the 26th March, thats exactly one week after his mother Iti. Iti was trying start migration although a few days before, but somehow turned back after 250 km to the wintering grounds (after all, I guess she forgot something...).

Iti is showing up the female species. :rotf:

Luule still in Italy, but LSE Karin has arrived in Estonia (April 18), by way of Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia. What will she do without mate Kaarel?

PS. A few dates from Karin's & Kaarel's nest 2011, from Urmas Sellis' and Ülo Väli's lecture at the Estonian Ornithological Society. Urmas and Ülo hoped to have a webcam "film" of nice regular nest life from their nest, different from nest owner changes and adventures at other nests:

Early arrival of LSE (April 12). Mate arrived April 14. Building nest together. Early May (2nd) 1st egg. ♂ brings prey. - 12th June crack in egg; 15th June chick. “Grows” by each image. Visitor “obligatory to all Tartumaa LSE chicks” climbs up 8th July, chick ringed.

Kaarel & Karin got GPS backpacks and were ringed, also in July 2011.
The camera was a trail camera (not webcam).

Liis is Urmas film anywhere to be seen ( of Karin and Kaarels nesting 2011) ?

Tõnn seems to have flown back up through Sweden now. :puzzled:

Hello, Carmel  - Kaarel's and Karin's nesting is part of Urmas' and Ülo's talk at the EOY on nest cameras and raptor studies.
The EOY lecture video, in Estonian, is here http://www.eoy.ee/node/417; photos from the webcam at Kaarel and Karin's nest start at about 46 mins video run time, plus Ülo Väli talks about Kaarel's visit to "home" before leaving for the south in autumn at about 1 h 42 mins, as a favourite memory.

Liis, thank you. Your synopsis is quite enough to understand the 'whole'.
I hope Urmas can see if Karin has a new mate and tell us about it (if he ever has time!.Such a busy time for them now.) So sad Kaarel has been lost. :slap:
