This is definitely a wonderful nest place, in a natural tree trunk and the owlets look well sheltered by their Mom
Mamicja
Two female GHOs breeding side by side - and one male providing both? What an unusual "arrangement", I haven´t heard about GHOs in such a trio-status until now. Amazing, isn´t it?
Quite challenging situation for the male - imagine that all eggs will hatch successfully .... a lot of hungry beaks to fill ....
Thank you both for sharing

Mamicja, I was just told about the trio owl nest! This is so exciting!!
Never would have believed it without seeing it with my own eyes!!!
I hope that the male can keep up with all the prey needed to feed the baby hooties!! I just realized that there isn’t any sound. :( I probably won’t follow this cam. But I wish them all the best!!
Lubaska, thanks for the link and pictures of John Reese’s GHO Cam!
I wish that it had night vision.
By the way, when can we expect the Great Grey Owl to return and nest?
The last time I checked the camera, the tree Hollow was filled with snow.

These are 2 pictures from yesterday feeding time in Shadow Ridge Owls nest in Arizona
I was wondering why I cant see any food... but I ve discovered the nest pantry is located right under chicks.
So chicks can sit on their lunch and be hungry... as soon as Mom comes and offers them a bite, chick swallows a prey. The little one simply need to take it from Mom s beak.
Another prey stored a few centimeters further :)
Today is a silent, peaceful day in the school. Mom is roosting not far from her babies.

Sometimes cam 2 shows how the nest is located. The pillar is protected with the net, in case the owlet fall out of the nest.

People put the net around because of the last year chicks fell down. They were not hurt, were just put back to their nest by people. So net is now as a prevention against falling down the slippy pillar edges.Mamicja wrote:The pillar is protected with the net, in case the owlet fall out of the nest.

yes this looks like a sure home... but yesterday the cam was shaken by someone and i heard a human coughing.
Right in the moment i opened the cam and it was over fast.
the female was very upset but i saw no one.
Later when she left the tree trunk, i saw her two little ones.

Cam is down the whole day today. Yesterday evening there was quite heavy rain there... that s probably a reason. we must wait until somebody fix it.Biker wrote: yes this looks like a sure home... but yesterday the cam was shaken by someone

Update on two "adopted" owlets from South Africa.
Chris writes on The Caring Owl FB account:
BARN OWL DAY 9
GRASS OWL DAY 6
As mentioned in the previous post, the little grass owlet did not do very well yesterday. Even though I skipped 3 feeding sessions with it, it showed no appetite and began to get weaker and weaker by the hour. By 21:00 hours last night I began fearing for its life, because it could barely lift its head anymore. Fortunately, after a sleepless night, I am happy to report that the owlet is on its way to recovery again. Its tummy went very well by about 03:00 this morning and since then it began feeling better and by this morning, it was already much stronger again and even began eating again, almost as if nothing had happened. Here is a video taken early this morning showing me feeding the two owlets. See how strong the little Barn owlet has become. He is the one that I'm feeding first and then the Grass owlet last. Having owlets for children is definitely not for the weak. When I see how the two owlets are leaning on one another, I can't help thinking of the song, "He ain't Heavy, he's my Brother"

Lately I have not seen the male. Female visits the nest place almost every night, scratches the nest bowl, calls and waits.

I hope that the John Reese cam comes back soon!!
Lubaska, thanks for the update.

Update on two "adopted" owlets from South Africa.
Chris has written this morning that the little Barn owlet is dying... although been doing so well for such many days.
The little was prematurely hatched and Chris thinks that it cant breath properly since its lungs were not fully developed. Grass owlet (which had a problems a few days ago) is well and is fed with meal worms by Tiny.

The Caring Owl, South Africa
Today s update from Chris:
"I've decided to rather have him put down today.
This is not a decision that has come easy to me, but I think that it's useless to try and keep him alive and just prolonging his suffering when it is clear that there is not much that we can do to help him. This breaks my heart, but I honestly think that it's the humane thing to do.
... If owls could be martyrs then this little owl would have definitely been one. In his short little life of 13 days I think he has made more people aware of the effects of secondary poisoning and what it does to our raptors and their offspring, than any other owl. From the day that I placed a photo of him as just being a mere red speck in an egg, up until the end of his short life, there was more than 108,000 video views of his struggle for life. This little owlet might have lost the struggle for life, but he will live on in my memory, and I think in that of a lot of my followers, for a long time to come."

Yesterday the male visited the nesting place also at 18:37
Later I saw a creature creeping in the background. I thought it was a snake.
But today I saw this creature in the daylight. Big lizard!
