Re: Owls Around the World
Yes I saw LLO out on the porch and when a car passes he runs for shelter. Poor LLo Home 'Alone' !!
I'll try to keep watch. I have no sound ? but we'll see if he gets his courage in-gear.!!
Thank you Bosuil for the updates on the OTHERS.

LLO still on the doorstep.!! Has been inside too, then comes out again.
I haven't seen a feeding ? But mus be feeling lonely, as you suggested.
And not yet brave enough to leap out.
I haven't seen any wing exercises either.....
I'm goodnight .

I have not seen much in the way of wing exercises -- LLO does sort of fly from one end of the hallway to the other, and up to the doorway and occasionally flaps in the hallway. She just flew at the cam from the porch! And she flies toward the doorway but of course the doorway causes a problem.
When I did see her flapping I thought the wings looked short but... (Owl wings are relatively short aren't they?)...
I do not think LLO is getting quite enough food, judging from the way she was working over the wing in the nest box.
I will miss LLO but I think it is time for her to join her family.

Blast!
I missed the LLO's leaving. I hope they will post a video. I did see a parent come in looking for him salamander in beak crying and crying -- even hopping into the nest box looking. So I hope all is well with the LLO.
A parent was just around again with food.
I just watched the video of the LLO leaving. Played it 3 times only once did I see the leaving, which appears to even have a replay (I feel like my connection to the net is playing me up), but the one time I got to see it, it looks great -- a jump with real flight to follow.

Yeah, Alice I've seen it now.
Yes, they did a replay. Did you see how he hesitated to the last....out/in again, then finally making the jump. Courage !! LLO. We wish you well
(sniff...)
BTW my computer crashed shortly after my last post. Don't know why.
I'm now.Goodnight/goodmorning .

It is soooo odd. Instead of the replay (except for once) I just see the empty hallway -- nothing happening for a while. I will try again after I have closed everything down and then turned it back on. (That being the extent of my computer knowledge.)macdoum wrote:Yeah, Alice I've seen it now.

I'm not sure photos from this particular webcam LO will still follow, but here is the translation of the very last logbook messages as kept by 4 members of the Little Owl research group from that area in the Netherlands.Muscovy Duck wrote:I hope to see a couple of photos from the outside, though. :)
It has a link to their site and to photo's of both adult and juvenile Little Owls, (uncommon) nestplaces, typical Little Owl places (farms), and preys etc. they just posted of their field work ref. Little Owl breeding results. Have a look.

I see one.
It is a good clue why I did not see my Great Horned Owl branchinglings when I went out looking for them.

Very interesting video for Owl lovers:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eapO1jnMLToThis footage shows Tawny Owl nesting, Barn Owl entering the nest box & Stock Doves also attempting to nest in the box. This shows that more nest boxes are needed to sort out the competition for nesting birds.
