It might well be 29 degrees - the place is in the Jordan valley and 200 m below sea level (gets up to 40 degr. in mid summer). They just lie down stretched out like ... like lazy cats, with legs stretched out - not at all bird like! They breathe very fast, with their beaks open ...

Also, there's a huge difference in size - I read a Barn Owl starts breeding right after laying the first egg, and there were 10 eggs here (one laid every other day), of which 7 hatched, and there's 5 chicks left now, so they hatched 8 days apart. Yes, they look a little scary! They still miss all the feathers around their faces, but I like to watch - I never saw a Barn Owl cam in a place with so much daylight coming in - allowing to see the real colours in the day time.

Meanwhile, our Little Owl mama doesn't allow us a glimpse of what's happening beneath her ... yet.

I only just found this Barn Owl webcam, via this German-language forum that started some days ago and they reported seeing 7 chicks on May 4. Apart from the 2 links I posted earlier, I only found this article where it tells about the 10 eggs, of which at the time of writing, 7 had hatched.
I assume the 2 smallest ones have died (probably lack of food), and, sadly, might have served as food for the older siblings (something we saw happen in the Little Owl family in the Dutch webcam last year ...).

To end on a more positive note: do read about this Barn Owl and Kestrel project - it is good to read about such cooperation, as well between farmers and environmentalists (from the point of replacing pesticides by natural hunters as owls and falcons) as the cooperation between Jordanians and Israelis in the Jordan valley (this news often doesnot reach us in the West).

It is wonderful to see our owls they are dang cute, and it is wonderful to see their world.

It is encouraging to see that there is a lot of lively interest in owls of various types.

seems to me that we gonna monitor this new owlets litter in Netherland quite closely :)

I think opening another topic would be lovely -- keep our friendly community and give us a chance to follow other cams (and to educate me about the other cams).
