I am very sorry to report that one of our cats brought me "present" in bed today.
A Great Tit fledgling... Unhappily it was too late to save by the time we got the cat to surrender the poor little thing.. My sympathies go out to Mamma Tit..
Told the cat off but I doubt he understood.

Poor bird Unfortunately, cats don't understand - well, it's their nature, they love hunting (most of them).
Last year our flea-bag also killed a lot of small animals and birds

New video about LITTLE OWLS on Beleef de Lente: weighing the chicks! Oh, poor little thing being taken from her chicks! And, well, I know they are little, but it always shocks me again how little they really are.

Awwww, poor mamma owl.! Looks quite offended. Then went off to the corner to ?pray? to get-her-wits' together ?
( and she is 'weeny'--very small.)

I wondered if that going into a corner act was something like "playing possum" (playing dead). If she were nesting in something more natural maybe she would have disappeared into the nesting material while "frozen," there in the corner and been almost invisible. With the white walls she was very visible.

I guess it is exactly that. There is another video, an older one, where both male and female react like this to a noise coming from without. They are making themselves invisible... It is important to keep in mind that it is dark inside. The light comes from a red light so the night camera can "see" but for our bare eyes it is dark there and such a small bird would be quite hidden in the corner.

I would not be sure just by looks but the hooting and "kuviiking" is a tawny owl for sure

EDIT: LOL! I love the part where the owlets are bigger and hardly fit into the box

I was not sure that the pictures were all Tawnys but they sure sounded like Tawnys. The full box was cute but so is the picture toward the beginning, of the little owl leaning out of the hole so desperate to get out, but not quite ready to go.

Watching the Barn Owls






One of the younger whiter babies got in a bit of a fight with the parent about the food but they all left the youth alone with his bit of food. He is really working to rip it up and get it eaten.

These are very strange-looking owls.
parent came with prey,a rat and same happened. they kicked-up a real storm,I had to turn the sound off..!! One owlet grabbed the rat and went to the corner to eat alone. As Bellatrix said they may think they are invisible there ?
The parent-owl in profile looks like ; a gnome/ a gremlin or 'Old Mother Hubbard' !!!
And they have really long legs .vert different from 'our Tawnys'

are really looking very cute -- they stay in their little pile in the middle of the box when their mom is out. Their wings are beginning to be defined by feathers.

Dutch owlets are growing rapidly - they don't fit under mom's wings anymore. Always is somebody left halfway out

Definitely more of that crowd surfing going on. Momma seems to float on the babies as they wriggle about.

The peregrine chicks are really getting big. They are getting their feathers and are beginning to spend time flapping their wings.

What do I se there ? Looks like a 'Ghostly' thing in the far end of the nest-box? Is it a reflection or WHAT ?

I guess I was away. I have not been looking at this nest much -- I have yet to see anything. So I do not have a sense of how it normally looks. There are some white patches on the wall but nothing mysterious

I watch this one (although it has occasionally just been dark and the two cameras are a little out of sync).

It's little particles caught in a spider's web that's swinging in the air up close right in front of the WEBcam (therefore seems unproportionally large) ...
