I have thought about this yesterday evening, too, Bea.

I can't remember, that I have ever seen a flight high in the bush of an owlet.

Owlet finds muskrat on the ledge

Didn´t take it, but placed it closer to the wall. Maybe it waits for Lotte to help ripping.

The owlet is eating slowly.

21:48 It is observing the surrounding very often.

My impression is, that little one is waiting for a delivery of Lotte - as it does every evening.

I haven't seen the exact minute, but self-feeding is finished about 22:11.
The owlet stays on the ledge.

Then our owlet does many wing and jump-fly exercises for 15 minutes.

July 1st

Pixtura archive doesn't show a visit of a parent last night or in the early morning. But the owlet knows, where the big remains of the muskrat lie!

07:58 Pixtura archive shows this pic of sleeping owlet on the nest.

My night recordings end at ~03:50, until there was no new delivery in cam view. Owlet was repeatedly on the muskrat to eat from it. Walking, sitting preening, observing vicinity. Cam stayed zoomed to the nestbowl area, so I don´t know where the owlet was when it was not visible there.

At the moment it trys to get rid of a pellet ....

Lotte came landing in - it looked as if it was a bit ungentle landing .... also in the other videos she seems to be limping, I am not sure, what do you others think about it?

10:06
Lotte was out on the ledge and fetched the muskrat, owlet followed her - but it grabbed and defended the muskrat against Lotte! It let her not have a single bite from it, was only eating for itself from it.

10:21
Lotte leaves - here you can see that she didn´t walk normal.

I think I also heard helicopter sounds in the background, maybe they are spraying the vineyards today again.

Yes, the right leg appears to be injured. Hopefully Lotte gets better soon, the owlet needs her. Thanks Bea.
On 26th June in the evening Riitta wrote about a attack of the owlet against Lotte, Lotte was here to be seen at next on 28/29 June. Hopefully the owlet has not injured her.

17:50 Only now I have time, to watch your videos of the morning, Bea.

The first clip shows, that the owlet is really a fighter and defends heavily its meal.
No morsel for Lotte, little one thinks of nothing but self.
I guess, that's normal in wild nature.

And the second clip shows clearly, that there must be an injury at Lotte's leg. I hope it's not a protected illness.

romy, the attack of the owlet against Lotte - some days before - was aimed in direction of Lotte's beak, as I remember.
