It is very sad news for all the Polish people at home or abroad (there is a large community here in Alsace).
My condolences to all.
The irony would have it they were travelling to Katyn for commeration ceremonies.
We are all thinking of the Polish people today, with prayers in our hearts.

i just saw the news on TV and really understood the dimensions of today's tragedy. i'm so sorry for the great loss that the Polish people have suffered today, on a day which could have been a day of consolation and reconciliation with the past.... i wish all who have suffered losses today will have courage to meet with this misfortune.

I want to thank all those who sympathize with the Polish society at the time of this terrible tragedy. All the people in Poland, regardless of political views and sympathies, are now immersed in deep pain and disbelief that something so horrible happened. It’s a real shock for us, and a huge, unexpected loss of not only the President of Poland and His Wife, but also of many very important and valuable persons. It's a great tragedy for the families and relatives of victims of disaster and a huge blow to the Polish state.

Until now, Katyn forest aroused sufficiently painful memories for the Polish people, and now the same place gathered new terrible harvest of death again.

Thank you, Dear Friends.

I too offer my condolences

I had just finished reading a book that took a brief look at the horrible events at the forest when I heard the news there was to be a meeting of reconciliation and then followed by the news of the plane crash. The horror of it reaches out even to me and I am so far away.

Comming from an area with alot of Polish immigrants and a shrine to Our Lady of Czestochowa there is deep sympathy for all those who perished in that crash and it shows in the news reports from the Polish community here in Philadelphia. The United States may not have gotten its independence had it not been for two patriots named Thaddeus Kosciusko who was the Polish engineer who built the fortifications at West Point where the US military Academy. The other is only one of 7 who were given "honorary US Citizenship" and is deemed to be the father of the American Cavalry ,Casimir Pulaski who gave his life in the Battle of Savannah in our Revolution.

It is even more tragic , speaking only of the past history, in that they were returning to commemorate the katen (sp?) Forrest massacre of Polish Military officers, intellectuals and others by the Soviets. To me it just seems sad that instead of one horrible tragedy to remember at that site there now are two.

As you can see, the ties between America and Poland go back to the beginning of our nation so the American People feel the pain and grief of the Polish people. Our sympathies go out to all the families of those lost and to the People of Poland

The world is so much smaller now it seems, it is impossible not to feel the sting of tragedy no matter where it strikes. I send condolences to all the Polish members of the forum. May the joy of watching new life come forth at the nest allow for some little bit of healing in your hearts.
