Oh my that pigeon chick is sooo cute with its topnot on its head! Thank you for sharing this link, Macdoum. I looked on the page for the Kansas City Zoo, & I discovered that we have cute little striped baby boars! Here is the link: http://www.zooborns.com/zooborns/kansas-city-zoo/macdoum wrote:I bet you have never seen a pigeon like this one;

Pidgeon to be seen at Colchester Zoo (nr Jo ?)
That link is jam-packed with Zoo News. Search by animal or by zoos scroll down.. I read Dublin Zoo has a baby tapir.Tallin Zoo,an Ural Owl chick. (it is a bit out of date there.
Happy hunting, see beautiful photographs and videos too. Prima !!
Even if thats zoo news they all seem to do a wonderful job in protecting certain species.
I don't see our zoo there...great for Amur Leopards and Lamurians from Madagsgar.
Do tell us what you find from your zoo.

What I found was not very new, but it is about a rare, almost extinct local animal -- a tiny bunny

Lovely photos there Lussio. thank you for the link...but that little baby is very ugly...only a loving momma Gorilla will find him/her the sweetest baby alive.
I hope we can follow the news from there. Imagine;its her 7th baby. She is doing a great job in keeping the population growing.
I know one was born in Dublin Zoo also, not very long ago.

Hi !
What a beautiful baby gorilla, how nice mom! I hate what hurt them. They should not end up in zoos but live in the wild. A power to destroy all animals and deprive them of their territory, humanity road to ruin

My reaction was more like Yoko's -- there is something about how much they look like us -- not ugly, but so much like us and yet not like us -- I wondered if that is part of why we have done them so much damage. It brought tears to my eyes.macdoum wrote: Lovely photos there Lussio. thank you for the link...but that little baby is very ugly...only a loving momma Gorilla will find him/her the sweetest baby alive.

But I fear while we ravage the planet some will have to live in zoos to survive.

I don't find the baby ugly! I don't compare it with human babies (though even human babies can be ugly, but for their parents they are the most beautiful thing in the world)! I admired the picture with the hand resting so softly on the baby! And I am sad that we "human" beings do everything in order to destroy nature and the living spaces for "animals" like that - and not only for them! Ultimately we will have destroyed the world for ourselves as well - but only human being is that short sighted!

I would always recommend to read "Kanzi. The Ape at the Brink of the Human Mind" by Sue Savage-Rumbaugh and Roger Lewin.alice44 wrote: My reaction was more like Yoko's -- there is something about how much they look like us -- not ugly, but so much like us and yet not like us -- I wondered if that is part of why we have done them so much damage. As far as I know, Bonobos are our nearest relatives. But also the other primates are amazing... google, for instance, for "Koko"... http://www.koko.org/index.php
Here is a short video about Sue Savage-Rumbaugh and her lifework.

Another story on Gorillas
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news ... ce-fossey/
I cannot really see it in the picture, but the story says that young Gorillas were seen dismantling snares a few days after a snare had killed one of them.
--------------------------------
Just days after a poacher's snare had killed one of their own, two young mountain gorillas worked together Tuesday to find and destroy traps in their Rwandan forest home, according to conservationists on the scene.
"This is absolutely the first time that we've seen juveniles doing that ... I don't know of any other reports in the world of juveniles destroying snares," said Veronica Vecellio, gorilla program coordinator at the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund's Karisoke Research Center, located in the reserve where the event took place.
"We are the largest database and observer of wild gorillas ... so I would be very surprised if somebody else has seen that," Vecellio added.
(Also see "Dian Fossey's Gorillas Exhumed for Investigation.")
Bush-meat hunters set thousands of rope-and-branch snares in Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park, where the mountain gorillas live. The traps are intended for antelope and other species but sometimes capture the apes.

Alice, thank you for an interesting article. It's really impressive what they are doing, and it show us that no one must be underestimated..( something we humans, unfortunately, are good at.
Also thank you Maertha, for your video.
(Macdoum, I forgive you for taking out my quote.. )

I seem to remember that she told us that the injure from her fall was a bit troublesome, and that she had to take some strong painkillers..
Kitty, I hope you are ok..
