I had a "house guest" today morning, and all in all a rather hectic morning!

Look here:

Image

I was getting my second cup of coffee in the kitchen and wondered "What bird keeps on calling", but did not see anything looking out. Came back to the living room, which is on the other side and there the calling was even louder, so I went out on my balcony, and - who sat on my neighbour's balcony? She has two plush birds there to keep away the pigeons (I think they laugh about them) and between the owl and the raven sat .... yes, a cockatiel. Greeted me immediately with loud shouts. On the roof a crow was eying down so I immediately went over and knocked at my neigbour's door who opened, already besides herself "Mrs. M., there is a bird sitting on my balcony, what shall I do?"
So I went in with her and to her balcony and he (or she) greeted me again and when I started talking and carefully stretched my hand immediately went on my finger and in with me. We quickly closed the door and stood, me with the bird, my neighbour still in her night clothes ...
I went back and got my poor son out of bed to bring up Blacky's transport box, that was the only thing that came into my mind to keep the poor thing temporarily. He went in, had some water, but I also did not have any bird food, the only thing was a piece of cucumber. This weekend we do not even have apples in the house.
Called the police to let them know the bird is sitting here, in case owners call, called the animal emergency service too, animal shelter was not answering. So after a while the bird tried to get out again and I was afraid he might hurt himself, the wire openings are quite big. So we put a towel over the box and my son came with me to keep the bird from escaping and we took him to the animal shelter.

What a morning you had today, Felis!
The cockatiel was lucky to land on your (or your neighbor's) balcony.
I hope he will be returned to his owners though..
(nice to see him on the picture:)

Macdoum wrote of a "few days", so I hope it's still inside those "few" days! Best wishes again to her!

About macdoum - I had e-mnail from her. She was in hospital on Tuesday 4th September. Home on Thursday 6th September and was feeling a bit shaky.

I came to post about an injured sea eagle and then saw the posts about macdoum

Maertha has posted (in the WTE databse) this report about a "dog-fight" between 2 WTE - one is recovering now.

It was in English when I posted it!

Goods (DAPD-lmv). Motionless, a six-kilogram eagle sits in a plastic box, a network prevents any movement: The dark brown feathered bird with the bright head was injured on Saturday in Sembzin in a dogfight with a fellow flightless and landed in the reeds at the Müritz. The volunteer fire department merchandise caught him and brought him to a vet.

Been notified of the fire was the angler classes Lindemann from Ulm, who had witnessed the incident. "The two eagles in aerial combat with their claws hooked into each other that they did not seem to get rid of each other," said the 25-year-old. The birds were then dropped into the water and there were savagely beaten with wings.

The veterinarian Holger Nietz fed the beast, which had multiple wounds. "Fortunately, nothing is broken. The Eagles will certainly be back on its feet," he said. In the sanctuary in Müritzhof the bird will now be nursed. There are currently an owl, a hawk, a jackdaw, a crane and a swan.

Thanks for the news about Macdoum! I hope she is getting better every day!

I have to remember about looking if Maertha has the article on another injured WTE in the database. B.-U. Meyburg was using it for a poster at a conference and the WTE is also carrying a transmitter. Might be also intersting for Urmas, but I have the things at home and now I'm at work already. I keep on forgetting it!

If you go to Birdmap and look at the bird list on the right, you can see three WTE. Click on the name Nimeta and this message pops up -

http://birdmap.5dvision.ee/index.php?lang=en
There is a message on Birdmap, about Nimeta. They need help with the cost of the transmitter.

:headroll: I was awakened today by a 7:30am phone call (after not sleeping much through the night, anyway). Specialist pain clinic calling-- they had a cancellation tomorrow at noon, would I like to move my appointment to that spot instead of waiting till next Monday? ABSOLUTELY! I told the lady this may be the first thing that has gone right in over 3 mos., since I had the fall. Actually, more like 4 - 5 mos., if I count the last 2 wks of April when I had pneumonia & landed in the hospital & then the long recovery from it in May. Anyway, wish me luck that something can be done to resolve all this pain & disability beginning tomorrow.

Felis, what a wonderful adventure you had with the cockatiel! It is lucky to appear before someone dedicated to nature's creatures as you are. :2thumbsup:

Macdoum, we are all thinking of you, sending healing energy to you, & look forward to when you feel strong enough to participate again in the conversations.
