A Place for Empty Nesters.

Post by Jo UK »

Autumn is a wonderful time -beautfiful colours, mellow days, slightly longer nights.

It is a time of winding down, ready to rest but not yet the stillness of winter.
Time to remember the joys and experiences of summer.

Harvest time - what shall we in Looduskalender harvest from this past season?
We had so many webcams, so many nests. A forest, a sea-shore. Webcams in other countries,

Importantly, we have harvested a big increase in member numbers so we have new friends, new insights, new memories.

One sad little thing follows us into autumn - the empty nests.
So here we have a place for continuation of the disussions we enjoyed in the webcam nest topics.
This is for all "Empty Nesters" - the members who have that feeling that "something is missing".

Nancy has provided a gift to start this topic - the Ode to Joy, in a Flash mob film

In my mind I see now Nori fly and she sings this song.

:D :D
Thanks, I think this whole beautiful things can come over, good stories, eg a specific day that you were worried at first instance gevechtje themselves, or joy at the first flight of Nori.
Please share it with us, the sooner it is spring again and hopefully we can then have a look into the life of the osprey see.

Oh! Jo UK, this video is filmed in my beautiful little country, Catalonia.

Thanks you all for these months so tender and funny. There is a moment of this beautiful family of ospreys that I shall never forget. When Nori and first flew as crashed-landed on top of Madis, Uno and Elo. Lol! I still remember and laugh.
Many hugs to everyone.

Its amazing how people from all over the world come to their computer's each and every day to sit and watch a family of Eagles,or other Birds live, love and grow. I thank you for this group as it will help us all thr the withdraws.
its a place that we can all come :gathering: together and chat.. thank you..

I know the three chicks all grown big and strong, the family all take off heading south is the very best result we can expect. Still the emptiness is eating me up. Knowing happy and feeling sad at the same time all this day. Hope I'll learn to take it better next season.

Voru, Estonia now is the cool nice 6 C, Cairo, Egypt is 35 C. If I were Piret, I would miss life up north very dearly. :slap:

The vedio shows how great a fisher the osprey is, and demonstrate unbelievable beauty when they fly.

The way osprey live outside the nest is marvelous!
No more bitter feelings. I'm so glad to see them go. :D

If you go to Birdmap and look at the bird list on the right, you can see three WTE. Click on the name Nimeta and this message pops up -

There is a message on Birdmap, about Nimeta. They need help with the cost of the transmitter.

Yes you are right..what is it with those birdies..wild and free..and maybe we are lonely and want to care for something..and the friendship here is real, you see you are not the only one.. I think that in human world it has become more inhuman soo we seek us to our animalfriends..and here we find others of the same sort.
Before I registered, I watched cam and wrote about it on Facebook, and noone cared really, but I had no forum then so I continued to write about the ospeys hihi..maybe there has been one or more new registrers that way.. :2thumbsup:

I wonder about Ilze, but that is OT perhaps.. should go to Migration forum.. hellish lot to run around and look for here..feel alittle lost as Nori did when things changes around her.. we have no nest anymore, we have to make it cosy here instead..but I miss the easy way to go back in the thread ,,now one must open so many windows.. it will be OK soon I guess..
Ilze and Eriks are a couple as I understand but Ilze flew west of the normal route and dont move so much so I am worried for her, her husband started way after her but has come half way to Africa or more Ilze stays I dont no where exactly but what is going on..compared with Piret..resting and than further south resting and further south..Ilze stays..is she trapped?

Now I cant find migrationforum..I would like to have it all in index startside..

Wow, that's great that they could rescue the eagle. And there's Urmas in the Video too. I can't understand the language but i see that they all did a great job.
Is Dr. Madis Leivits possibly the one who gave our osprey 'Madis' his name?

I don't think there is a connection between the two Madises. Mutikluti suggested the names Piret and Madis back in April
We didn't know about Dr. Madis until much later. It seems to be a usual name in Estonia.

from the movie "Winged Migration" - my favorite song, performed by Nick Cave
(it makes my eyes leak, every time I watch and listen)

Lyrics:

Across the oceans Across the seas, Over forests of blackened trees.
Through valleys so still we dare not breathe, To be by your side.

Over the shifting desert plains, Across mountains all in flames.
Through howling winds and driving rains, To be by your side.

Every mile and every year, for every one a little tear.
I cannot explain this, Dear, I will not even try.

Into the night as the stars collide,
Across the borders that divide,
Forests of stone standing petrified,
To be by your side.

Every mile and every year, For every one a single tear.
I cannot explain this, Dear, I will not even try.

For I know one thing, Love comes on a wing.
For tonight I will be by your side. But tomorrow I will fly.

From the deepest ocean To the highest peak,
Through the frontiers of your sleep.
Into the valley where we dare not speak, To be by your side.

Across the endless wilderness where all the beasts bow down their heads.
Darling I will never rest till I am by your side.

Every mile and every year, Time and Distance disappear
I cannot explain this, Dear, no, I will not even try.

And I know just one thing, Love comes on a wing,
And tonight I will be by your side, but tomorrow I will fly away, Love rises with the day
And tonight I may be by your side, but tomorrow I will fly,
Tomorrow I will fly, Tomorrow I will fly, Tomorrow I will fly, Tomorrow I will fly
