Wondering if anyone can recognize the bird that chirps in rapid succession in the background on the WTE live webcam (Robert & Durbe's nest). http://pontu.eenet.ee/player/juras-erglis.html

Thanks! 8-)

Thanks you, airras, for new pictures - Jordi and friends must have really been busy this weekend :D

I know the markings on the wings are much better to see and perceptible than rings on legs, but I have to admit that I don´t like them very much on the birds

But I know in case I would sight one with my binoculars and could read the marks, I would be enthusiastic :whistling:

i happened to stumble on this eagle again while i was looking for eagle ringing information. this B279 is an eagle who visited the Nõva eagles' winter feeding place many times. my statistics from 2012 say that she was seen visiting the feeding place on 6 days altogether.

she has the name Hilkka. :loveshower:
the colours of the ring and the letter B tell that she hatched and was ringed in 2009 in South-Western Finland. it is not mentioned how old she was when the picture was taken but she looks like a 2nd winter eagle here.

this picture is taken from the lecture which Torsten Stjernberg has given in the WWF Finland 40-year anniversary seminar on Oct 20 2012 at the University of Helsinki:

i tried to find out about the meaning of Hilkka, but found only little. the word hilkka means a bonnet in Finnish. the name may also be a variation of Hilja (or Hilia) which originates in the word hiljaa meaning silently, softly. maybe this name has behind it the same idea as names Prudence, Honour, Chastity and other such names: being silent would be one of the feminine virtues.
